My clock says 21 minutes to cocktail o’clock, but
1) your results may vary, and
2) it’s cocktail o’clock somewhere.
Nineteen minutes now

I am sorry for your loss, and I hope you can find comfort through this difficult time.
At the same time, thank you for your strong statements in support of academic research and standards.

It may be, but I’d like to see some other issues nominated so we can have a contested election for “most damning thing about the United States right now”.

Frankly, I found it rather underwhelming and won’t celebrate again. Seems like we’re in the FATskTsk era of sentencing.

Holy crapamundo! This is horrific.
Canada spent a good part of its history attaining a professional, skill-based, apolitical civil service. Now these rwnj Conservative governments are destroying it without a qualm.

I clicked the link, and it’s a garbage take. They had their writer dress it up to look like the outraged reaction of an ordinary homeowner.
Is this the party that Councillor Cartmell is leading?

Oh! Regarding the clip you attached, is PACE one of the new municipal parties contesting the upcoming election? If so, do you know who yhry’re running for mayor.

I would definitely like to hear your detailed take on these either here or in Taproot. Several are under construction near me.

Um-m-m, I’m pretty sure that people using this expression are referring to the target’s own mother.

I don’t know much about your assumption tendencies, but you’d be wrong to assume I’ve seen either “Ishtar” or “Gigli”. Or “Gigi”, which autocorrect insists I was trying to write there.

As a Canadian I hope that the foreign ministers and leaders of the non-US NATO nations have been talking over some what-ifs for this situation.

It is nice to see someone celebrating the Evening Scernted Stock. I grow it because my grandmother had it when I was a kid, and my daughter grows it because we had it when she was growing up. Enjoy your summer evenings.

Since you wrote this, I feel comfortable noting that car dependence may not be our worst generational character flaw.

I could quibble with whether this is universally accurate, but (more importantly) this feeling is a curse to many of my contemporaries. I wish we could escape it en masse. Is there a bus route or bike path out of here?

I’ll be in my house watching tv during the Four Nations hockey thing, but I promise to put my tour on and sit down whenever the US national anthem plays in my presence.

Yes. It will be very inconvenient for all affected. Also, schedules are not as-built dates. I use the 102 Ave over Groat Bridge as my example. OTH, we mock every place that ever skips maintenance and reconstruction until a bridge falls into the terrain it is crossing.

Elsewhere in 2026, Dawson Bridge will reopen, Low Level Bridge closure will switch from southbound to northbound, and Beverley Bridge will remain two eastbound lanes.
That’s it. By 2027, all those projects are scheduled to be done. High Level reconstruction may begin if design is completed. n/n

Late in 2025, removal and replacement of the Wellington Bridge (on 102Ave crossing Ramsay Ravine) will begin. This will continue through 2026, and it will force traffic from the west end onto Stony Plain Rd (one lane each way) or 107 Avenue. 5/n

… the southbound side of the Low Level Bridge will be closed. It isn’t clear whether the northbound side will remain two lanes northbound or become one lane each way. In either case, Dawson and Low Level work will be a major problem for a large block of the south side. 4/n

… only reduces the bridge capacity from three lanes to two.
That still leaves considerable disruption in the next two years. In 2025, the Dawson Bridge will be closed to motor vehicles, although pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use the north multi-use path. At the same time, … 3/

First, the High Level rehab should not be lumped here because it will only enter the design phase in 2026, so its construction won’t begin until the other projects are completed. Second, the Beverly Bridge rehab is part of the Yellowhead Freeway upgrade, doesn’t really serve downtown, and … 2/

This article drove me to the City of Edmonton’s website, and that caused me to conclude that the authors are overstating their case. This year is going to be difficult for a lot of commuters and 2026 somewhat less so, but downtown access is not going to be brought to anything like a standstill. 1/

You say excessive; I say punitive. Typically the employee signs in good faith intending to fulfill their contract terms, and they need a mechanism to press the employer to behave in good faith behaviour as well.

The further away and more symbolic the monarch stays the better off we will be. Our nationhood is not a matter of fleeing some new overlord by hiding under the aegis of our former overlord.
