Heyward, my next Hank Aaron hopeful...had an appendectomy and went on the 15-day. But everything other than that went perfectly. I saw my favorite team playing baseball in perhaps the stupidest baseball weather of all-time, and I had easily the most luxurious seats in the house.

I got the tickets and a Jason Heyward jersey for shaving my head. 23 degrees at first pitch. JUpton hit 2hr on the day and went B2B w/ BJ in Game 2. Mike Minor and Julio Teheran had pretty good outings, given the cold. Phenom Evan Gattis destroyed one ball to the crowd of like 300 (19k announced).

I attended the coldest game in Coors Field history...from the comfortable confines of the newly-renovated Press Club. My company purchased season tickets, and I got the tickets for the postponed game. My boss wanted no part of the weather, so I ended up with both games.

If he's lucky, he may be able to plunk Ronald Acuña Jr. in a minor league game before he returns from the IL.

I'm guessing he passed and she called it quits as a result. Then one of the dogs got a hold of the pills she used. Still a possibility of real foul play, but I don't want to speculate on that until it becomes apparent from information given by authorities.

I don't mind their packages now, so I'll be sad to see them go. The packages they dropped off every day were front door deliveries 9.5/10 times, so I won't miss those.
comment in response to post
As a USPS carrier, I still regularly see UPS packages. They just have to go thru USPS from start to finish. Their drivers just can't dump the ones they don't want to deliver at our postal units now, which was a real headache. The change means fewer large packages, which helps.

I feel terribly...for the daughter-in-law. She was deported once, and fought to earn her way back into the country. Now she's been deported a second time, for the same crime. And I do feel for the mother-in-law. Her granddaughter doesn't have a mother, again. Her son is missing his wife, again.

The Gen X people that buy into this myth wholesale are the same folks that liked Public Enemy and Rage Against the Machine "before their music got political." They weren't parented, cant parent, are as reckless and oblivious today as they were then, & they see it as a strength rather than a fault.
comment in response to post
Some (a lot) of these things happened, but the idea that it carved Gen X into self-sufficient, rugged individualists that can handle anything is a farce. The same kids drinking off the hose had a full pantry at home and all the clothes they put holes in were quickly replaced.

Plan's in place, time for him to get back into the private sector so he can benefit from it.

Well, looks like you're the one crying now. I'd save those tears for when David Wright falls short.

Counterpoint: Who the fuck is he leading on a late Sunday evening, when most of the people still up are doing the same thing he is? If someone is criticizing his lack of effort in stopping #47, fine. But I feel this is more performative outrage than genuine criticism.

Like, that place wasn't even close to the shadiest place I lived in Lincoln. And none were as dangerous as the stuff that goes on at nearly every college campus in the country...tons of young adults new to alcohol/drugs cohabitating was super fun, but in retrospect, super effin' dangerous.

This is objectively hilarious and I hope your day goes as planned.

Today sucked. Got snow last nite & more coming, so DOT half-assed and didn't get within a yard of any mailbox. My postmaster said auto-skip if not clear & they don't have a package. Did a lot more than that because I don't want to leave Tuesday with extra mail on top of holiday, but I'm feeling it.

I absolutely love buldak noodles, it's now my go-to quick meal. So easy that I actually want to augment and learn to do more with it, like what you've done.

If I were an executive with a team that owns its own broadcast, I'd be offering my channel to Japan/Korea/Brazil/etc. television providers for cost, or close to it. They may not have Ohtani, but they can potentially recreate the Dodger-friendly environment, or at least dilute it, in these markets.

These energy vampires gotta go. I guess I'm going to have to start curating people in joyful threads as often as hateful ones, blocking the killjoys.

Everyone's situation is different, but I also quit drinking right around 40 (about 5 years ago now). My quitting drinking has evolved into a "wedding, funerals, special occasions" drinking, which really meant to be generally responsible with how I approach alcohol. The change was worth it, fwiw.

Michael Schur and Ted Danson team up again in Man on the Inside, which I believe embodies "makes us laugh a lot, but with real heart." Others mentioned Derry Girls, and I think that it really ends up doing the same. Mostly the laugh part, but the heart part always hits like a truck in that one.

The record is a classic, but dated. The artists have said so, and you only need to look at the album title's first draft to realize this. Still, it's a snapshot of the time, and a strong dose of nostalgia. I don't think there's a notable track on the album that won't remind me of my older brother.

I still remember my brother getting this cassette for Christmas along with Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet. Both came out in the 2nd half of 1986, but I imagine this was a year later - it just took longer for anything popular to reach us. Or maybe I misremember - I was like 6, and there was MTV.

Well, I wasn't expecting that, and so now I have quite a few records collecting dust on their unopened plastic wrappings. Tonite's the nite, folks. I started with a classic that I've wanted for a long time. Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill. It's probably every Midwesterner's gateway to hip hop.

May I take a moment to note just how fucking clean that can design is? Maybe I'm a sucker for a classic vibe, but that is just about perfect.

He should've been the top HC or DC target for about 20 teams in the league, but especially the Bears. Pairing him with Ben Johnson would've been fantastic.

Agreed. How come this restaurant is only offering its super best item only after grown folks are climbing under the flat sheet?

Sipping Manhattans until those street tacos hit at 10pm, altho gochujang bbq sauce may get me on board with those sliders. It's dangerous, but the alternative for me is fucking around with some margaritas, still waiting for those 10pm tacos.

Is this having an adult birthday party at a high-end burger joint when you turn fifty, or the name of a new high-end burger joint we should hit up? Either way, I am in.

Looks promising, at least. I absolutely detest coffee, unless it's in beer. Then it's dark and roasty yummy.

Today, it was tacos. And it worked.

I don't do eggs, so we're going pancakes and fried chicken with a bloody mary. Solid brunch, imo.

I'll leave you for the nite with this one. I'm not sure you'll find a musician that means more to his audience than Benjamin Tod. His ability to connect to the listener with his emotionally deep lyrics makes him a legend. A literally life-changing singer-songwriter. youtu.be/V6SR4lNqjME?...

Wish I had more to say. This is just a really good song. Don't know anything about the artist, but she landed this one right on my chest. youtu.be/GDAzWREemWE?...

This song is just so smart. I love the writing here, I wish I could find more from Abby Webster. There's just a little out there, but I'm looking forward to that day when there's more. youtu.be/VmpBwgZJPOU?...

I won't shut up about Willi Carlisle unless someone makes me. He's my favorite, and this song has added meaning to me on account of its other appearance on Western AF. But that's a long story for another day. youtu.be/_KtgEu9cVic?...

Sierra Ferrell is 1 of 1. Her most recent album is probably my favorite of 2024, certainly top three. She's another that has gained significant notoriety, having played Jimmy Kimmell and a ton of very big shows. The randomizer brought me an oldie-but-goodie. youtu.be/6fPqmceCf90?...

I feel as if the Red Clay Strays should be, like, famous famous. They're getting their dues and playing some pretty big festivals and venues, but a few of their songs should be plastered on the airwaves. youtu.be/kSqwgRfU3J0?...

I'm so thankful for Western AF's YT channel. Not only does it cultivate a wonderful roster of songwriters, but it also leaves them the room to tell a story beyond the song. The live performances are consistently great, but the intros and outros add so much. youtu.be/kz-zV2_jd38?...
