I rarely drive too, but our public transport is terrible.
Definitely 🚲 for the win.

Then I will never be shouty at you 😊.
I did have someone once do it and someone else tried to follow them into their space 🤯.
Basically I hate car parks.

Bloody Londoners 😡
Wait, I'm a Londoner 🤔

I still can't fathom it. I always reverse in. I only post this, because, once again, someone has driven through whilst I'm reversing in and shrugged their shoulders as if I'm in the wrong 🤷

Its the large Storm box here, but I think they are the same concept. It doesn't fold flat unfortunately. I'm probably going to put my 52 panniers back on again in the spring.

But I love that I don't have to cross main roads and still enjoyed using the hire bikes/scooters, even on a bleak winter day.

I would say that the redways and pavements away from the centre are suffering from more neglect than the roads are.

From hearing Matt and your cycle journeys, I'm not sure our attitudes used to be so bad in this country. I wonder what happened? Specifically to make the UK deteriorate compared with our European neighbours (I'm not talking about the B word, this goes way back past then)

We are back with the 'build it and they will come', or 'build for what you want more of'.
Worryingly without these safer routes as viable alternatives at the same time, we will only get a NWR with infill housing and congestion will keep coming 🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗

and then this conveniently pops up for me. bsky.app/profile/emma...

I think this sums it up for a lot of people. Myself included. We just don't feel safe enough to cycle relatively short distances. Maybe that is where money should be going, into making these routes safer.

I agree, I always say the bypass is like a wall if you don't have a car. I wouldn't dare cycle with my little one around a 70mph roundabout.

Interestingly my disabled parents moved away from Shrewsbury partly because they felt the increases in vehicle traffic in the town was not making it an easy or safe place to shop.

I totally agree about the unsafe country lanes. I personally would not cycle them. Its a shame that there cannot be separate cycle paths like there is between Pontesbury and Minsterley for at least a 10 mile radius of the town, and speed reductions on smaller country lanes in general.

I understand the frustrations. I still drive some journeys to the top of town from near the hospital, but I tend to drive round the bypass. I would probably cycle more of them (esp with my little one) if the roads were a bit safer. 20mph limits would help massively with this.

I just can't see it happening in the near future. Meanwhile more and more homes being built with limited options for anything but car dependency. Something needs to change whatever they do. Hopefully it's the correct one for the long term future of Shrewsbury, not just a sticking plaster.

Very real concern is whoever gets in in May, if there's no money to build the NWR we still need solutions to congestion in the town. Years ago they used to clear houses/businesses for roads (see Frankwell/Barker St), thankfully we know better now.

Benefit of the doubt. Maybe off to move a fridge or take granny to the doctors.

Absolutely agree with this, and thank you for supporting them.
The Quarry Pool and Gym has been a lifeline for me over the last year with being able to access it. I would really struggle to get to Sundorne with the cost of 2 buses or the time to cycle there and back from the west of town.

I wouldn't be able to. From looking at others posture when riding, the head tilted forward and pushing with my feet would set off my neck spasm again.

That's a very accurate way of putting it! Thank you.
Glad you are fully recovered though 😊

Mine is better, although I'm always feeling it could happen again, and certain things make it tense up so I have to be careful.

Suddenly where I could walk became my whole world.
It meant that walkable places, work/shops/family/doctors etc became not just important, but everything.
This happened out of the blue, it could happen to anyone.
It certainly gave me a different perspective on the idea of #15minutecities 3/3
