The metaphor I use is that TROS merely pissed on the smoldering embers of the house TFA torched TLJ made a bold, but uneven attempt to do something unique with the shitty hand it was dealt and TROS went full-bore fanservice — but TFA set the stage for all of it as a cowardly soft reboot

Fair, but I disagree: TFA had the chance to be a proper sequel but went for a cowardly soft reboot: new rebellion, new empire, Jedi are gone again, Sith are back, Han’s a smuggler, new desert world orphan and cute droid, etc…

Yup! Trump wanted Republicans to kill the filibuster when he was president before, but they’d already carved out exceptions for the stuff they really wanted: tax cuts, judges, etc But if Trump asks, they might break it now for other legislative priorities

Removing the filibuster was always a risky proposition and I’m glad we have it today But Republicans have violated the filibuster and similar antimajoritarian checks under Trump before — for SCOTUS and federal judges — so they can still do it if they think it’s necessary

Absolutely no one in the end, which is why I want this not to be the lesson voters teach Democrats

Candidates have an obligation to court voters and not simply assume their record speaks for itself — but this is one of my concerns One lesson Dems might learn is that spending precious political capital on stimulus, infrastructure, etc. isn’t worth it and instead they should wage culture wars

Idk about competence but my fear is that Trump 2.0 will be much more unified

(And for my money, I think very little energy needs to be spent punching left — but when we do it, it needs to be both careful and decisive)
