So @nytgames.bsky.social having “bindi” but not “bidden” in 🐝 was weird.

Lectionary Easter 7: What is the unity that Jesus prays for in the Gospel? It is not just “that they may all be one” as the truncated ecumenical motto suggests, but “one as we are one.” It is a misunderstanding to read this as simply “closeness” as though the call were an appeal to stick together /1

Harvard will still be there to teach the bitter history of Trump’s attack on civil society when he and his fellow-travelers are ashes.

“Poor man wanna be rich. Rich man wanna be king. The king ain’t satisfied ‘til he rules everything.”—Springsteen, Badlands

"Peter and Paul understood that the belts and chains of their imprisonment were better than the loss of the heart and soul of the Gospel for the sake of defending ease and privilege." Sermon from Washington National Cathedral this morning. youtu.be/mIa47Kk6fFw?...

The White House also posted this on X. They have made it impossible to tell satire from reality, partly because they don't know that difference any more than the difference between good and evil. And they are smirking because people don't seem to have a clue what to do. Time, surely, to stand up.

You may officially roast me for using the term "spiritual practices" unironically in a recent report, given the audience.

Occasional reminder that the plural of "beloved" is also "beloved." Thank you.

I’m just curious why no one has pointed out the correlation between the creation of Fox Broadcasting Company in 1986 and increases in autism?

Arma Christi IV: Maundy Thursday. Jesus' action with his own bowl and jug is the opposite of Pilate's. It is not just that he is kind where Pilate is cynical. His demonstration of loving service is not just an act of love but an act of power, and of responsibility. abmcg.blogspot.com/2025/04/arma...

Is @jstor.bsky.social (the site) having issues?

On the Arma Christi (first of a series): "the crowds that meet and accompany Jesus as he enters Jerusalem are not content to speak or shout his praises with words, but ....make their concrete statement about the claims he has on them, as on us. abmcg.blogspot.com/2025/04/arma...

The Nazis would have killed (sic) to have this guy.

Being both vile and incompetent was never going to end well for Trump. However this one is going to take a lot of people down with him. Unless the congressional quislings shape up this will be about global security soon, not just national prosperity.

Trump has messed this up so hugely, it will have consequences. Watch the cracks appear.

It’s depressing how poorly written this is @abcnews www.abc.net.au/news/2025-03...

Worth sharing with alt text. Brian Eno's response to the Quaker arrests.

When everyone is reading the NYT story about the Naval Academy this morning, I think it's important to know how misleading it is to claim that they used "affirmative action" in admissions before now. Here are Judge Richard Bennett's findings about the (now-old) policy that was being challenged:

Vance criticizes Denmark for not keeping Greenland safe - when its main threat is the USA www.abc.net.au/news/2025-03...

This explains just a bit too much.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism. We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

Censorship of public health research now.

One close Trump adviser simply says that the president’s ultimate leverage against certain judges who try to stand in the way of his agenda is that the judiciary does not command an army, while the president of the United States does.

Imagine being obliterated in a rocket explosion 11,000 feet above the Gulf of Mexico because you picked McNeese State over Gonzaga in the Sweet 16.

Meet Evan Anzoo, a five-year-old boy in South Sudan who died when Elon Musk shut down USAID and the boy lost access to his HIV meds. Musk says no one has died because of the aid shutdown, but that's because he didn't look. RIP, Evan, you deserved better. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Fascists.

Schumer claims that calling the Gaza campaign genocidal is antisemitic. This is dangerous to say the least. Antisemitism is a real threat; ethnic cleansing however is ethnic cleansing, and such special pleading is only further evidence of ethnic chauvinism. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/16/m...

I really wonder whether the Trumps may have laid some big bets on the market falling.

I really wonder whether the Trumps may have laid some big bets on the market falling.

Well I am not a Hamas supporter by any stretch - but I am a permanent resident of the USA who admires its constitution and therefore deplores its administration, and won't stop saying so. How much longer until they work their way down the list, I wonder?

The only sense I can make of Trump’s foreign “policy” is to see it as an asset—stripping exercise of the influence formerly held by the USA. They will try to make some money out of it, but it will gone.

I’d love to see some evidence for the trades of securities in companies directly affected by tariffs by members of Trump’s coterie before, during and after the period they were “assured.”
