Dunno why I bother w/description. Am someone who takes pictures a lot, often focusing on architecture, old signs and old ads, Americana artifacts, and retail related things. And I love old video games. he/him

And also the traffic light here is today a permanently blinking one, and hasn't been an actual traffic light in probably many years....

I've heard rumors Lafayette Cemetery Number 1 supposedly also requires you to be on a guided tour to enter(a la Saint Louis Cemetery Nmbr. 1), but am not 100% sure. If you know the answer for sure, feel free to respond to this comment.

I'll post pics of those great New Orleans views from here, on a future post. Not sure when, but eventually I'll get to those pictures....

I'll post my nighttime Walgreens neon pictures, later.

I need to see February 2011 blizzard levels in Chicago, or see something like a big 1967 or 1999(the year CTA had a lot of their 2600 series railcars break down, & they sped up rehabilitating those railcars) style snowfall, before I call any Chicago snowfall a snowpocalypse.

One day, I really finally will go inside Fleetwood Roller Rink(in Summit, IL) for a closer look of the inside. I promise one day I'll do that....

One day I wouldn't mind visiting some of those NJ Atlantic coach beachtowns, for their older architecture. Particularly after I saw pics of some of the older motels and other mid-20th century buildings in Wildwood. I'd also like to visit Asbury Park, and Cape May

AI needs to be improved so much, before I'd trust it. As of now, I don't think it is all the way as good as it should be yet. That has a long way to improve....

Metra used to have longer periods to use a ticket you'd buy, before a lot of their ride tickets expired. They shortened this window, in recent years.

Strange this alert doesn't even note that you only can board Red Line trains at Bryn Mawr going southbound, and not northbound(till the new platform opens). That is a fail on the CTA's part.

Hope that is successful. I like i.e., that the Northland Hudson's building will be kept. Shame that doesn't occur more often, with demalling projects. It was ridiculous none of the former Stratford Square buildings were kept for that demalling project.

I agree with you on CONO timetable, which makes it annoying to do that train. I kinda wish the Illini and Saluki could be extended to say like Memphis, but you'd have to get KY & TN state legislatures on board to fund an extension. And I worry both legislatures would be too anti rail to fund this

In the future, I am thinking I want to visit Pontiac, IL. Might do Quincy on a side note once the weather warms up, and also take my bike for that trip.

Yeah, I hope you get there at some point in the future. Pardon the fact those pictures are at night(about 5-6amish?), since northbound City of New Orleans at that time of year(December) arrives in Mattoon before sunrise.

In Mattoon, they lowered the track level to be below street level in the early 20th century. Some pics I got of that

Same with me. This new term, is like the lame renaming of french fries(don't need to say it, I'm sure you recall what it was) back in the 2000s.

I think Paxton was the town a CONO or Illini(I made several different stops south from Chicago to Jackson, MS) train I rode on not long ago, had at least one or 2 small Christmas decorations that looked nice as the train passed through it in December.

Did notice there were some Zehr's stores in Windsor. Might be tempted to go by one, if I visit Windsor in the future....

I'm not sure if I can think of any past cases when private equity bought out some chain, than chose to sell it later. Might be some rare exceptions when that occurred, but I have this bad feeling it hasn't occurred often. I'd hope if Frisch's were to be sold, hope it'd be to a better owner of course
comment in response to

Didn't word that previous comment well, sorry. What I should've actually said is this makes me root against the current ownership, & wish someone else would take over. Though knowing how private equity companies tend operate, prob unlikely Frisch's will ever get out clutches private equity, I fear

I didn't go to many in 2024, but I saw Collin Hay(Men at Work singer) last October. That was an amazing show, and it made up for me not being able to go to Riot Fest in Chicago in 2024. Which I try to go to, during most years.

I don't use Poshmark, but sad to hear they're starting to do AI. Does nearly every site(short of Bluesky and a few others thankfully not doing so) have to do that crap?

I'm so late in noticing this post, but screw that! Now I really want all Frisch's restaurants to close, if they do this crap to their workers. I just fear this company will do the same and buy other struggling companies, and also run them into the ground.....

I keep debating one day I want to buy an old school Polaroid camera, and take some pictures with that. It's funny Walgreens still sells disposable cameras to this day, and when I thought noone buys those anymore? At some point, I'd like to get a Polaroid camera....

One last note: I believe this location closed in 2009, and it was slightly before Blockbuster's 2011 bankruptcy. My visit by this former Niles, IL location, was like 9 or 10 years after it closed. It was remodeled into laundromat sometime in early 2020s.

I tried deleting my inactive Twitter account a month or 2 ago, and not sure why Twitter wouldn't let me do that. So yeah, Elon is probably trying to prop up the number of remaining accounts, when much fewer still actually use it.

I wish President's Choice cookies(which IIRC is brand Loblaw's owns) were still sold, in the US. I'm doing an upcoming trip to the Detroit area, & thought I'd do brief side trip Windsor. Not sure if there are any Loblaw's stores Windsor? If so I may be tempted to go by one, since I miss PC cookies!

I don't remember the exact year I took this picture, but I definitely recall I took this around time I used to occasionally meet up with friends at nearby Golf Mill food court. Sometimes I'd take nearby walks after, if I was bored. Pretty sure this was taken in the late 2010s, not sure exact year.
