The US once benefitted from autocrats chasing away scientists and academics from Europe, now somewhere else will benefit from autocrats doing the same thing in the US. Shame.

Stand up for Science! #StandUpForScience

They want to keep it quiet, so you know what to do.

“The American military is so back tip of the spear warfighter lethality” Also “Lemme put on my makeup on my entire face first.”

Donald Trump promised to lower food prices. Instead, he fired the experts in charge of containing the bird flu. Yep – the same bird flu that’s part of the reason egg prices are surging.

Apparently, the 6 figure salaries they're getting as gov't employees is "a small fraction." Am I the only one or does that seem to suggest that private companies are far less efficient, and gov't is MORE efficient if they can get the same "value" for less cost? (I'd argue these guys aren't a value)

NEW: I helped Brian Krebs trace the background of one of Elon Musk's top loyalists, Branden Spikes, head of IT at X, who spent 2 mo at DOGE. Spikes and his ex-wife were involved with Russian diaspora websites and groups linked to pro-Kremlin KSORS players, Russian state media while he was at SpaceX.

I love the name of this bill, the pettiness warms my heart

Wow. Just look at how slavish his followers are

Celebrate International Women's Day by interrupting men with your unsolicited opinions and taking credit for their work. If they get upset about it, be sure to tell them that they sound hysterical and should smile more.

I love this photo that @melissabender.bsky.social captured of me at the #standupforscience rally yesterday in NYC. I wonder if I could make this my official faculty photo lol @jackiantonovich.bsky.social @kimberlywheiman.bsky.social @archaeoscape.bsky.social @sarahruncie.bsky.social

This is what happens when you hire children to do adult work

Next SOU, the Dems should sneak in bluetooth speakers and just play recordings of GOP yells of "You lie!" "Liar!" and, if they can find appropriate times, "You put them there!" Keep switching which speaker is playing (with many hidden on the GOP side) and watch Trump fume at his own party's words.

Bluesky, why can't we delete a post? I saw a post on the War in Ukraine that had info I didn't know, so I went to repost it. As I did so, I noted the 'quote' option said something like it was disabled. Seconds later, I thought that could mean it was BS, but I can't delete it to prevent misinfo

Tadaa.

In today's episode, we check in on the Stand Up for Science rallies that spread to 32 cities. Listen here 🎧: buff.ly/YgplAQ4

This is such a core concept of our democratic system of government. They are our REPRESENTATIVES, not our leaders, not the people who tell US what to do. If they can't handle people saying "Your decisions are wrong," then quit the job.

lol, from UK satirical magazine Private Eye

This.

Musk is starting his own payment system, but is trying to axe the fed dept that would prevent him from scamming consumers, and the Senate is trying to pass a bill that'll make it impossible for the CFPB to stop fraud. MAGA, are you going to actually admit you're pro-fraud now?

Remember when the GOP used to advocate for small government because they didn't want the government stomping on constitutional rights? Now they want small gov't because they don't want the gov't busting them for cheating on their taxes, breaking environmental laws, and otherwise bothering the rich.

There's an estimated $500 BILLION to $1 TRILLION a year lost to tax cheats. It's not illegal immigrants or union workers or protestors that are cheating that much, it's the rich. Trump's daddy illegally gave $400 million to Trump avoiding the taxes he owed (then around $160 million).

When I get a chance, I'm going to read this article. There's a teeny-tiny chance I might have a former student in this mix (or a relative), and any chance I have to influence these numb-nuts, I'll take.

This is brilliant. Oh, also, do NOT watch the speech, Trump lives for ratings

This is more consolidation of power, giving it all to one person. Even if you're a Trump supporter, imagine how you'd feel if it were Biden doing this. Remember, at some point, a Democrat will be in the Oval Office (unless we stop being a democracy). Do you trust a Democrat with that much power?

The Trump administration plans to drop a federal lawsuit against a chemical manufacturer that released high levels of a carcinogen from its Louisiana plant.

Two market meltdowns. One common denominator.

Thanks to President Trump’s and Elon's decision to put the CFPB on ice, $100 million meant to help scammed borrowers is now stuck in limbo. This is the opposite of lowering costs.

We PROMISED to protect Ukraine (as did Russia) in exchange for them giving up their nuclear weapons. Trump can break all of his own promises (as he does), but he should not be able to make us a nation of oath breakers.

Missouri has been running the pilot for Project 2025 for a couple of decades. With a GOP Supermajority, over 30% of our schools are on a four-day week. We fund vouchers for private religious schools. Our starting teachers are 50th in the nation for pay and they pay for their own supplies.

You can't claim to support Law Enforcement if you keep forcing out people that have dedicated their lives to enforce the law

DOGE has seized access to huge troves of sensitive personal and national security information – and can’t even set up its own website securely. When DOGE fails to protect that data, it puts us all in danger. @repstansbury.bsky.social, @connolly.house.gov and I are pushing back.

The US has become a lawless Country Governed by a Crime Syndicate.

Keep saying it for the idiots in the back, RUSSIA PAID BOUNTIES TO THE TALIBAN TO KILL AMERICAN SOLDIERS!

If you want to know how to contact her, here's her contact page www.murkowski.senate.gov/contact She does say she only replies to Alaska residents, but if you happen to be staying (at some point in time past or future) at an Alaskan hotel or AirBnB, I'd say that qualifies.

You can't say you support Law Enforcement if you don't want the Law enforced.

For those who need to see this

No. None of them can tell you why.
