This article is good actually. Trump got more votes than Harris and if we want to clean up this mess he’s making we’re gonna need a bigger coalition. Let’s have this permission structure exist. We aren’t conceding anything on policy by showing how he lied about his plans to win people’s votes.

Kind of like when voter registration records got digitized and when the date of birth was illegible the default entry was 1900. So no, there aren’t dead people voting. Also, the kind of person who hasn’t needed to update their voter registration since the 70s is probably a Republican.

There are plenty of voters who despite being left of center in their policy preferences still identify as “independent” out of perceived social desirability, maybe finding one Republican that they can vote for to feel less partisan. It’s time that cohort stopped doing it for Susan Collins next year.

At least in my experience picking up the phone in one of those offices, our frequent fliers were mostly MSNBC moms who were always happy with what we were doing or Trump supporters who we were never going to please, but we heard them out just the same and kept track of their concerns.

If they want chaos, why not go full-on pre-decimal British currency? Replace the penny with a threepence coin that’s worth 0.0133 of a dollar, then a sixpence coin worth two of those, then the nickel and dime can stay, but also introduce a half-crown equivalent. Instead of $2.28, it can be $2 5s 9d.

Kaine Is A Good Candidate Actually. In 2005 he outran Kerry’s margin in VA a year before by more than Youngkin did for Trump in 2021. In 2012 he ran a couple points ahead of Barack Obama. In 2018 he ran a couple points ahead of the aggregate house vote, which skewed left due to one unppposed Dem.

The campaign showed that Project 2025 was deeply unpopular and the Trump campaign fought associations with it by lying through their teeth, so maybe grabbing the spotlight here can remind people of that and drive Trump’s popularity downward, building a permission structure for more GOP defections.

Seems like people are dunking on this as if OP’s arguing against COVID precautions, but he isn’t talking about policy decisions. I’m inclined to agree that stuff like fully virtual learning in 2020-21 contributed to this shift in late Gen Zers. It was still probably the right thing to do, though.

If they get rid of Free Fillable Forms I’m going to fill out my 1040 by hand and mail it to the IRS. My income is too complicated for the third party free options and as a tax professional I have too much dignity to give them money for something I am as well or better qualified to do myself.

Agree. An IQ test, if administered by a professional and adapted to the test-taker, can provide meaningful information about cognitive skills that may help someone succeed in an academic or professional environment, but it’s neither a complete measure of intelligence nor a substitute for education.

In all fairness, a giant economic downturn that decreased public spending would cause does correlate with lower aggregate demand, which correlates to a price drop for goods and services, but one wouldn’t really call those conditions a “new golden age” or whatever that speech two weeks ago was about.

It’s a fair argument that Schumer and Durbin should be whipping their own caucus against more of the nominees, but there definitely isn’t some arcane clause in the Senate rules that will stop the majority leader from putting a nomination on the floor and 50 Senators + a tiebreaker confirming them.
