@joerlansdale.bsky.social good to see you made it over here from hell

Never forget.

Never forget.

RIP Gene Hackman. Gone to that great stakeout chase in the sky.

I never knew that Gene Hackman did a Woody Allen film, ANOTHER WOMAN, co-starring Gena Rowlands. It’s from 1988, around Allen’s peak period. Has anyone seen it? I must track it down.

Shit, I didn’t realise his wife was found dead with him

I’ve never thought of myself as a traditionalist but whenever I see that fuckhead Musk in his baseball cap I’m reminded of that scene with Tony Soprano in Versuvio restaurant, when he threatens that young male patron to show some respect for the place and take his bloody baseball cap off

Well played this man

This SOYLENT GREEN illustration by Lou Feck is incredibly cool and I’m curious as hell what it was done for. A poster for the film, a cover for the novelisation, or some other purpose?

Variation on a theme @sulli864.bsky.social - on a whim I have just cracked another by Lyall

Yeah, fine, of course. But America, celebrities will not save you. You’d have thought the last election would have proved that but I suppose an addiction can be hard to beat.

This is also the case in Australia

I wish that Australia’s political leaders would show a similar fortitude in seeking independence from the US security apparatus

Is SHIP OF FOOLS (1965) Stanley Kramer’s least known film? For years I thought it was a comedy & only watched it for the first time last night because Lee Marvin is in it. But it is anything but a comedy. Set in 1933 it’s about a boatload of people sailing from Mexico to Germany & feels very now.

Bluesky's Moderation Content has slapped a big fucking "Adult Content" sticker over this but from my memories of being 10 years old I know exactly what book cover you're talking about.

Highlight of my viewing this week could be Reinhard Hauff’s KNIFE IN THE HEAD (1978). Terrific political thriller about the aftermath of a police shooting & a male version of THE LOST HONOUR OF KATHARINA BLUM, which came out three years earlier. Plus, inject 1970s Bruno Ganz directly into my veins

Today’s secondhand scores. Includes a 1975 UK hardback edition of Judith Rossner’s LOKING FOR MR GOODBAR with a cover I’ve never seen before, some nasty Brit analogue spy action I’ll pass into @sulli864.bsky.social & a rare Michael Parry antho of black magic fiction. Now I need to get the first four

I am not sure if WHITE LOTUS is the show America needs right now, but it’s the show it deserves.
