This is what happens when you elect narcissistic bullies who demand loyalty at all costs.

All the clown wants to do is make reality TV

When you buy books, buy local and buy indie. Support your local bookstores, friends!

Opt out tomorrow!

everyday, something we do ends up lining the pockets of a nazi, a colonizer, or some other white supremacist; their greasy, bloodsoaked hands are in everything. & it's difficult for us to keep track of it all, but please divest engagements or support for them wherever you can. our actions add up.

Looks like tomorrow will bring votes on a Republican plan to fund tax cuts for the rich by slashing Medicaid. So this is a great time to contact your Member of Congress.

A.I. chatbots posing as therapists that are programmed to reinforce, rather than to challenge, a user’s thinking, could drive vulnerable people to harm themselves or others, the nation’s largest psychological organization warned federal regulators.

Every artist I know is really struggling right now. Financially, emotionally, their confidence, in general. If you like an artist's work, support them any way you can. Buying their stuff or subscribing to their Patreon is great, but words of encouragement are also incredibly helpful.

My mom was a rural mail carrier during the time of the mid-90s flash floods in Carter County, TN. She was often the only person some of her route folks saw in a day.

Having to rename folders from “flood photos” to include the year —because it keeps happening—breaks my heart.

Y'all, it seems like only yesterday we were asking you to help central Appalachia in the wake of the waters laying waste to our home, but it's happening again, just a little closer to where Steve and Cam grew up. PLEASE help if you can!

Haysi, Grundy, Hindman, Whitesburg, Jenkins, Berea, Murray, Welch… across SW Virginia, Eastern and Middle Kentucky, and Southern West Virginia, flooding is happening again. This time with an even weaker government response available. Climate change is real. Be safe, friends. 💔

Eastern Kentucky is flooding again. Mutual aid is gonna be critical in the coming days. Donate what you can now.

They are attempting to enforce a new Lost Cause narrative. Just as the original justified Jim Crow, reshaping and constricting our public memory concerning Black contributions and the national struggle against slavery and racism paves the way for the assault on civil rights and re-segregation.

“We guard the hangman, hang the just.”

“When we see ourselves represented in history, that is also life-saving and really empowering, to say, well, trans folks have done this. They’ve stood up to oppressive governments before and paved the way for rights that we have today.” www.salon.com/2025/02/14/c...

I am going to be so pissed if--after everything--I do, in fact, die of dysentery.

Brace yourself: the Trump administration is coming for the arts.

While I was logged in, I figured I should go ahead and write that blog post about Antarctica I've been meaning to for a year . . . rachelrosolina.com/blog/antarct...

Yeah, yeah, I know I’m terrible at updating my blog, but here’s a review of a book you should read by @cartersickels.bsky.social. rachelrosolina.com/blog/the-eve...

Finally read @cartersickels.bsky.social’s The Evening Hour in all its tender, raw, aching beauty. Read it yourself, and then watch the @appalshop.bsky.social film The Buffalo Creek Flood: An Act of Man (Mimi Pickering, 1975) on YouTube.

A lot of people who have no idea what government actually does for their lives are about to apparently find out real quick.

“CDC researchers were instructed to remove references to or mentions of a list of forbidden terms: “Gender, transgender, pregnant person, pregnant people, LGBT, transsexual, non-binary, nonbinary, assigned male at birth, assigned female at birth, biologically male, biologically female.””

It doesn’t matter what words are banned. Trans people exist and are worthy of love and life.

Finding small joys is the only way through some days. Today it is dogsitting this doggo.

Know your rights with these book marks.

Honored to be on the Girl Scouts of Kentucky's Wilderness Road Council podcast Unstoppable Women with my sister-in-law and fellow communications pro, Erin Rosolina!

Ever get a library hold and have to pause a book you own to speed read a book you borrowed? I call that a DIY Cloud Atlas, and I’m currently jumping from @cartersickels.bsky.social’s THE EVENING HOUR to Alli Dyer’s STRANGE FOLK and now expect Appalachian witches to stop the coal slurry pond break.

The funding freeze by the White House could affect trillions of dollars and cause widespread disruption in health care research, education programs and other initiatives. Even grants that have been awarded but not spent are supposed to be halted.

If you read one book this year, let it be Stolen Focus. Gaining an understanding of how US society has been structured to break our focus (and our senses of self and community) in service of capitalism means that knowledge can also be turned into a point of resistance against those same forces.

As the world burns around me and it is 0° outside, I find myself sitting on the couch asking how many malt balls are too many malt balls?
