Employers say they can't afford to pay more. They also said this about: The abolition of child labour, Paid holiday, Safe working to avoid accidents, Employers' pension contributions, Sick pay, ParentaL leave, And just about everything else that threatened to make people's lives better.

Sheffield, Yorkshire. Former centre of cutlery manufacture. Even when I was a kid (OK, a [very] long time ago now), loads of quality cutlery was marked "made in Sheffield".

I kind of agree, but the truth isn't always clear and uncontested. The answer to so many questions is "it depends", or "further research is needed". Many seem to want instant and categorical answers to questions that can't adequately be answered like that.

Did that 46 years ago. My wife had been told any further pregnancy (we already had 2 kids) might endanger her life. No-brainer, IMO. And, if any gentlemen want to know, it was practically painless and without side effects.
