I can understand the concern but surely there's a cutoff date between existing claims at the current rates and the new rates for new claimants
comment in response to post
If this is voted through it deserves to be Labour's 'Poll Tax moment'. How can you have a system where two people are affected by the same thing yet they get different levels of benefit payment? How many existing claims are now going to be cancelled and reassessed?

He's not got the skillset to play wide right and Wirtz will take what should be his natural position. I like Elliott but he's always struggled to nail a position down. If he's happy being an 'impact sub' getting a handful of PL games and cup games then great. If not, he's added 10-15m to his price

Wait to see if the bill passes first? Surely M.Ps realise if they vote in favour then their constituents wont forget

The Winter fuel and benefit reform debacles are enough proof that McSweeney hasn't got a clue. All it would of took was a meeting or two with backbench MPs and leadership would of known how their policy ideas were going to be received. It would of saved a lot of political embarrassment for Labour.

So let me get this right. Hawley's position is, "We are taking away Medicaid from poor people, I don't like it but I am going to support it. Then once we've taken away that assistance we must make sure we give it back" How about: don't take it away in the first place? The bloke is an utter ass.
comment in response to post
Streeting has been such a desperate disappointment on so many levels and if he truly thinks McSweeney is responsible for Labour winning the election then that says so much about Streetings political judgement.
comment in response to post
There are alternatives on the Left/Centre Left that are far more appealing than anything Labour are offering at the moment. If McSweeney and Co. dont realise Labour are hemorrhaging supporters then no amount of focus groups and internal polling will save Labour at the next election.

I was a lifelong Labour voter until the last election where I went Libdem and now I can't see how I will ever vote for Labour again. I still wanted this Labour government to do well but unfortunately they're proving to be even worse than I had expected and I had set the bar very low to begin with.

Don't worry, it'll soon pass. Lie down in a dark room and rest.

They'll be hiring more militia members, KKK racists and J6ers then? I assume that's largely what ICE actually consists of?

"We have to do a lot of soul searching but I support the bill" Who is this utter plank?!

Some Americans are very odd.

So, as a lot of us have been saying since the GE, Labour are chasing voters who will never vote for them. Political genius that is. Labour really need to get their act together and get some meaningful, positive policy through.

Hopefully the whole benefits debacle will finally mean the end of McSweeney. He should of gone after the local elections and if Starmer doesn't pull the trigger soon then Labour are destined to go the way of the Tories

I have never, ever understood this at Glastonbury. Why allow huge flags on poles in the first place? What is the point?!

Don't you dare give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free coz i'll have them kidnapped off the street.

The halfwits advising Starmer have to realise it is better to have the parliamentary party onside before announcing major policy. It wouldn't take long to canvass M.Ps to get an idea whether a policy is viable or not. A cursory conversation on benefit reform would of saved a lot of embarrassment.
comment in response to post
I wouldn't say I'll never vote Labour again but I didn't at the last election, for the first time ever and one of the reasons was because Starmer doesn't stand for anything. Love him or loathe him at least you knew what Corbyn believes. You don't get that with Starmer.

I used to enjoy QT back in the day and I gave her a fair spin but nope, she's absolutely nowhere near Dimbleby as host. Combine her with Kuennsberg's blatant anti-Labour mindset and the BBC is done as a serious political news outlet. I'm just waiting on the pro-Reform edition of Newsnight now.
comment in response to post
The BBC are unfortunately a compromised service. Too many Tories in the boardroom and anti-Labour presenters on their key politics shows. We all know about the rightwing print media in this country. They've jumped on the Reform bandwagon because the Tories are done as a serious political party.
comment in response to post
Yes. They did. I've had a number of conversations that are basically, "They've had a year in power, why has nothing changed? It shouldn't take that long to get this country going again" usually followed by, "Look, I'm no fan of Farage but the other two parties have failed. He can't do any worse"
comment in response to post
They have two options now. 1. Announce they're not going forward 'at this time' and do what they should of done in the first place which was to consult with various organisations properly. 2. Keep digging. I wonder.....
comment in response to post
There is no connection with The Left because Starmer and McSweeney conspired to get rid of them all! McSweeney should of been sacked after the disastrous local elections. He is blagging his way through and if he remains in post then Labour are going the same way as the Tories at the next election
comment in response to post
I'm sure it is coincidence that the Tony Blair Institute is apparently a large influence on Starmer...

I think he has lost focus on the domestic stuff. It seems he feels like the World stage is where he belongs and he can leave the day to day to those 'left at home'. He doesn't get involved until it is too late and the Labour Government have yet another self inflicted wound as a result.
comment in response to post
He's learning about negotiation from his mate, Trump. Start off with something you have no chance of getting then settle on what was your original objective as a 'compromise'. Allows the rebels to think they won whilst achieving what you want.
comment in response to post
Bless her heart, she is plucky. Nearly everytime she steps up to the despatch box she makes herself look an arse but there she is the next week, stepping up to the despatch box... The Tories desperately need a leader who isn't covered in the shit from their 14 years of crushing this country.
comment in response to post
I think he has lost focus. He loves being amongst the 'big kids' on the World stage and finds domestic stuff boring. That's the only way the utter balls up over the benefit reforms makes sense. Starmer isn't interested, he just wants to be making global decisions instead.
comment in response to post
These rightwingers sure know politics.
comment in response to post
If it is all "obliterated" how is he going to explain those sites being bombed again in the near future?
comment in response to post
It's frankly ridiculous. Starmer isn't a stupid man but he's doing a bloody good impression of someone who hasn't got the faintest idea about domestic politics. Go and play the international statesman but leaving domestic policy to analysts like McSweeney was always a disaster waiting to happen.
comment in response to post
I may of been a bit harsh in hindsight. I have spoken to Alex McIntyre a couple of times and he does seem genuinely interested in the city. What on Earth is going on has mystified me. How can they be this cloth eared? "Support this policy or there could be a leadership challenge!" yeah? and??
comment in response to post
Gloucester's Labour M.P was actually asking his constituents how he should vote. If he didn't know, he isn't a proper Labour M.P
comment in response to post
Spitting image is a stretch but yes there is a similarity. It was partly his fault I got interested in this game. Watching him and all the other Brits of that generation on Late Night Poker or whatever it was called on Channel 4 back in the day.
comment in response to post
If I was an ambitious Labour M.P I wouldn't be seeking promotion anyway. I wouldn't want to be directly associated with the current mess Labour are in so that's really not the threat Morgan McSweeney thinks it is. The Tories demonstrate that. They're all tarred with the brush of incompetence.
comment in response to post
Labour are going to cave and announce a review of the policy before implementing it. Aren't they?....

If you feel bad about taking time off work then with all respect, you're definitely doing the life thing wrong! I've took so much time off and still got so much holiday booked that I owe the company I work for a weeks wages and it'll be worth every penny!

"Audacious" really?! It's plainly obvious what it is: economically illiterate and a bribe to the obscenely wealthy at the expense of the country. Where does the estimated 34bn in lost tax revenue come from?

That would be good to see. Throw the indies in with them and I'm all for it!
