Today is the Day of Remembrance. Eighty-three years ago today, FDR signed Executive Order 9066. It gave military authorities the power to create “military exclusion zones” from which any class of citizens could be removed.

We have needed a 21st Century Schoolhouse Rock since forever.

We don't do kings here. Burn Thrones, Build Tables

📢 “He’s trying to steal Medicaid to enrich himself. He’s gutting NASA to line his pockets with SpaceX. He’s looting everything good in America for private profit.” - @aoc.bsky.social at today’s #SaveOurServices NYC rally. The fight isn’t over. Join us: go.savepublicservices.com

Today, I found out that the Department of Defense banned the Well-Read Black Girl anthology by Glory Edim. I was one of its contributors. I'm really hurt right now. So if you have it in you, please buy books by Black women from independent bookstores.

“No more kings” From Schoolhouse Rock

Today, at 42, I learned how to read a windsock

I don't get personal on main very often, but I spent a few hours writing this, and I want you to read it. It's about my dad and my stepmom, and me, and Stranger Things, and what's happening to the VA right now. www.cheriepriest.com/blog/the-dep...

Hey, I know her! Time to dig out this old meme I made as advice to lawyers about social media.

I do not want to annex anything. I do want to be able to get on a plane and not worry about another plane crashing into it because some chud thought a Python script could replace an experienced air traffic controller.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

State AGs are looking for federal workers who have just been illegally fired to stand as litigants in a new lawsuit trying to freeze further action by DOGE. DM me if that’s you and you’re interested and you’re live in one of the following states: NM, AZ, CA, CT, MD, MI, MN, NV, OR, WA, RI, or VT.

I'm excited to share with you all the cover of my next book, its details, and some lovely blurbs we've received from @chuck_wendig @rkadrey @claymcleod. The book will be released on October 7th (right in time for spooky season).

The termination of 850 Indian Health Service physicians, nurses, and dentists will have a grave impact on access to care for millions of Native Americans. Upholding our treaty obligations is not optional.

Speaking of which: I heard you might like stories about CEO’s getting the axe, so I wrote you a book about cutting them into little tiny pieces. www.torforgeblog.com/2024/05/06/e...

Make your calls. Go to your town halls. Ask your state and local officials what they are doing under state and local law. Rest. Hydrate. Make soup for the hungry. Don’t let people tell you that you’re doing it wrong. Not a sprint. Not a marathon. A relay. Find your team. Thank you.

Do you understand how badly you have to fuck up to make Quebec sing the anthem with this much pride

The “white collar, right wing version of the Khmer Rouge” comparison is truly holding up. This is the work of illiterate and innumerate fanatics.

SKEET THREAD: What happened yesterday holds a powerful lesson. We must give it greater attention. LAWYERS HAVE A CHOICE. To obey the rules of our profession or to degrade our oath by putting politics above our ethical obligations. In early 2021 I wrote this piece. www.nytimes.com/2021/02/12/o...

Elected Dems in Washington State are generally focused on improving the lives of Washingtonians but I believe they should dedicate some effort towards undermining Republicans, who they vastly outnumber here. Making life difficult for car dealers is a start.

If someone says they're "not anti-vaccine," but they oppose mandates, schedules, etc., then they ARE anti-vax. You don't get to cherry pick vaccine policy, because deep down, sooner or later, what they really mean is this:

Law enforcement exercising their official duties in public do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy. This includes ICE agents. As long as you are not interfering with their duties, you generally have a right to record them on duty.

I just had to read Garret Hardin's "The Tragedy of the Commons" for a property seminar, and I don't think anything I've read in law school has made me this fucking angry. This essay is trash. Hardin was trash. Why is this trash still considered something to teach when it's trash?

My meme motto for the next 4 years... #startrek #startrekmemes #trekkie #resist #democracy #fight #resistance

Missouri alleges that, bc of DEI, customers "pay higher prices and wait longer for goods and services that could be provided for less had Starbucks employed the most qualified workers" so your argument is "my coffee took too long bc niggas is lazy and that's illegal" ?? give me your law license rn

Encyclopædia Britannica will continue to use ‘Gulf of Mexico’ for a few reasons: -We serve an international audience, a majority of which is outside the U.S. -The Gulf of Mexico is an international body of water, and the U.S.’s authority to rename it is ambiguous. 🧵⬇️

i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.

There's a construction site a block over, and it's got a hose dumping water into the street. Once upon a time, I would have thought, "Huh, what a waste of water." Now, I look at that and think, "And it's also a torts problem waiting to happen." Law school has ruined me.
