Kettle sucks.

... ... ... Seattle's Transportation committee chair has basically no familiarity with the transit system.

When traffic levels increase and you refuse to make upgrades like this, after councilmembers push back or nearby businesses complain, you're actually cutting bus service.

I truly believe we will look back at this attitude as *the* sickness of our political era. It is an extremely basic fact, and has been for decades, that the vast majority of political violence in the US is committed by the right! You cannot solve a problem if you refuse to identify it.

Going off this, and not to be totally down on anarchists, but they can have this radicalism chic going on that can end up a little fetishy. Not that anarchism is inherently that way, but the weird fetishism can happen.

About today's public transit discourse: I believe that riding public transit is a spiritual good for increasing your empathy and practicing minding your own business. It also helps you internalize that most people mind their own business, e.g. no one is looking at you.

It's pretty notable that mainstream, establishment discourse never ever ever considers giving liberal politicians credit for crime reductions. It's almost axiomatic that if crime goes down under a center-left leader it's either unremarked upon, or must be driven by something else.

My "popular with friends" feed is like 90% NYT endorses Cuomo posts. This reminds me that Seattle's current mayor ran with a message that the previous city council & mayors had messed things up when ... he'd been on city council for TWELVE years ending only a year before he ran for mayor.

I've said it many times before and Andrew Cuomo is making me say it again: we don't have a cancellation problem. We have never had a cancellation problem. To the contrary, we have a problem that "disgrace" is a very temporary embarrassment— an brief entr'acte more than an intermission.

I think a lot of the terror of the modern age can be understood by the fact that the Internet accelerated the development of the worst type of person, the "Anti-Intellectual Nerd."

Watching wild eyed and wicked on a Sunday afternoon

Anyone remember those military ads where they used down with the sickness in the background?

Just watched a Seattle police officer absolutely screaming at a group of pedestrians crossing the street with full right-of-way so that a motorcade coming from the Westin could turn onto Olive Way more quickly.

Fuckin shit I DO NOT like this for Caiya. must be an acl, but I hope not. :( #baonpdx

When they do something cool, it’s cool, for real this time

Just curious, if there are no kingsy events in other countries that have a monarchy, are they also editing it to no tyranny like the Brits or do they know it’s mostly an “ain’t talking about me” sort of thing?

"Rural gentrification" may sound like an oxymoron, but it is a real phenomenon. My team Furman University built a heat map to show where it is happening in South Carolina www.postandcourier.com/greenville/n...

This is the most granular analysis my team has done of community assets in its struggle with gentrification. Pink parcels are LLC owned. Overlay is of non-profit, land-banked parcels.
