One of many moments in Omar El Akkad’s new book, “One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This,” that will stop you in your tracks.

It is absolutely right that we do not need Greenland (or Canada) for natsec reasons because they are already close NATO allies. So the only rationale to turn the US into an aggressor in our own hemisphere is if you don’t plan on NATO being a US alliance in the future.

As usual, everything this evil creep says is pure projection.

Been reading a lot of books lately about another government that did this sort of thing. I think they called it a plebiscite.

the democratic party and liberalism's obsession with norms and reverence for institutions have hobbled our ability to fight these fuckers. we have to stop.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

Future flight bookings between Canada & the US have collapsed. Comparing total bookings held at this point last year with those recorded this week for the upcoming summer season show bookings are down by *over 70%* in every month through to the end of September. www.oag.com/blog/canada-...

Western Washington labor showing up in solidarity with, and demanding the release of, union members who have been detained by ICE

What the actual fuck:

Even if you accept the premise and decision, which I absolutely do not, it is the simplest thing to phone the visa holder, tell them their visa is revoked and say they have a month to leave the country. Accosting someone on the street like a kidnapping is just a spectacle of terror.

I think we need to be prepared to fight in the streets. If we see this happening, yell like there's a baby trapped in a burning building. They're operating like the SS, so we have to get loud. We're socialized not to make a scene, not to argue. We need to recall how to scream.

If the government has good reasons to deport or jail certain people, then due process is no obstacle. That’s why any opposition to due process for the deported and jailed should immediately warn you that they do not have good reasons.

ten years ago i was watching doug reruns with sam altman, like we often did together. i said it was a tragedy that doug funnie only had one outfit, and that someone should develop a program that would come up with different-colored vests for him to wear. "wait here," sam said. i never saw him again

“I insist on being shocked. I am never going to become immune. I think that’s a kind of failure to see so much of it that you die inside. I want to be surprised and shocked every time.” ― Toni Morrison

Poor things

This guy is in one of the worst prisons in the world with no way out and may spend the rest of his life there because, it appears, he has an autism awareness tattoo in honor of his little brother. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

The entire thread is like this, nazis asking for a summary of their posts, the AI says "Well it sure as shit looks like you're a nazi", then they argue with each response and it just goes into more detail why they're nazis

Wonder what we’d find if we started scrutinizing the tattoos of ICE agents? www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

“They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words.[…] They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade[…]but to intimidate and disconcert.”

Having one of those surreal “working on this PowerPoint presentation while fascist thugs disappear people” kinda days

Tesla is down again today, so that’s something!

Trump’s Gestapo needs five people to arrest an itty-bitty female college student I didn’t see any identifying markers/badges All of the agents cover their faces so we can’t find out who they are In other countries, they would call this “the secret police”

Absolutely horrifying. This is Gestapo behavior, right here in the USA. Where are Democrats demanding this be stopped?

Waltz: So what happened Elon: Looks like he's in your contacts, and you added him Waltz: Sure, but what are some other options

Ossoff nails it here

So, wait a second. You mean to tell me they’ve been able to just have a next-day hearing in the Senate about this administration this whole time? And this is the first thing that prompted them to do so? I thought they had no power or leverage??

Intelligence.

“This all goes to the fundamental point Trump has never been able to accept: that the U.S. government is the property of the American people and it persists over time with individual officeholders merely temporary occupants charged with administering an entity they don’t own or possess.”

Members of the general public tracked these flights on public websites. At bottom, there’s no actual secret at stake; it is solely a contest of wills between the branches, conducted entirely in bad faith by the executive.

Just a reminder: having a functional moral compass right now is going to make you feel bad all the time; don’t mistakenly hate yourself for that.

One of the things that's really hobbling older liberal leadership, Bernie included, is this reflex they have to show broad mindedness by using a kind of corporate version of Rogerian argument, where you always begin by acknowledging common ground or points of agreement you share with your opponent

How do overpriced cars sold by an overpriced company help the environment? How do you define “great American company?”

The Gang Illegally Shares U.S. War Planning Details With A Journalist

Y’all. I started a (political) book club with some friends. We had our first meeting last night and let me tell ya—I felt so much better afterwards and into today even. Getting together with like-minded people to read and discuss and challenge one another is life-giving. Highly recommended.

Right now, the savviest thing a Democratic politician can possibly do is to publicly demonstrate a willingness to violate both norms and decorum.

"When a complex system is far from equilibrium, small islands of coherence in a sea of chaos have the capacity to shift the entire system to a higher order." Iya Prigogine, Noble prize-winning chemist

As weird as it may sound, I continue to find history to be a comfort lately. The specifics of historical events are always “unprecedented” in their own way, but the broad outlines, the themes, the tactics of the evil, rhyme so much more than I think most people know.

a second health bar appears above the vatican as the pope enters his next boss phase

Tonight an unbelievable **34,000 people** gathered for our Denver rally to take on billionaires and win our country back. This was the largest political gathering in Denver since Obama in 2008. Also bigger than the 2024 DNC. And the largest ever rally in Bernie’s career (and obviously, mine too).

The US is scheduled to co-host the World Cup in 2026 and the Olympics in 2028. Why would thousands of international athletes and millions of fans from around the world come to a country where tourists, asylum seekers, and visa holders are being disappeared to foreign prisons?

This needs more attention. A sitting member of Congress is joining calls for a #generalstrike!
