Wag the Dog I don't feel fits on this list... If anything, it seems a better example of how things haven't changed. I don't remember it having a positive 'spin' on the US, considering the plot is about spinning narratives.

I'm not a woman, but if I were I would probably run to the men's bathroom regardless if I saw another woman in medieval armor standing by the front door. I don't need to be trans to have absolutely zero desire to be anywhere near her.

I think moderated is perfect free speech. Bluesky feels to me like real life speech. If someone starts spouting nonsense or toxicity in my life - I cut them out and avoid them. Blocking is where it's at. Social media should give users the power to remove whatever content or people they choose

Or learning how to critically think.

When I was young, I actually aspired to be in politics but backed away because I felt corruption was too deep already, and didn't want to sell my soul for power. I find that more of a spiritual revelation than what Bannon's selling here. Maybe God's plan is for Geatz to pack it all up...

I have actually felt like Dem party should just be egging on these cat fights as much as possible. Accusations of disloyalty should be neverending, coming from both inside and outside.

One easy way would be to leave it on the street for the homeless people (that Elon doesn't think exist) to live in, rent-free!

Genuinely curious if you know anything about Connelly outside of as a comparison to AOC or Raskin? I do not. Whether he won 8 elections prior - I've never heard of him until this week. I've known (and thought highly) of Raskin and AOC for years.

It's not us. This was a closed-door congressional vote. The people didn't have a say.

I'm an independent who hates MAGA, so the only rallying I will do for the DNC is when they make winning decisions I can get behind. Pretty sure even hardcore Dems would back a winner.
comment in response to post
Touche. And I like Raskin too and would never make such comments about him. Can't pinpoint the difference, other than possibly just exposure. I have seen Raskin on the front lines for years while, but until this week I'd never even heard of Connelly.

I'll give you that hypothetical, but I won't be jumping with enthusiasm over what looks like a choice that offers a slim chance to meet the lowest bar of just basic competence.
comment in response to post
Except MAGA had no hand in this. It was the DNC. The election is over now. Tell the leadership that just got voted in to 'show up.'

Can't empathize if he's given a powerful position he can't wield. Lorenzo De Medici 'the Magnificent' of the Renaissance period was succeeded by 'Piero the Gouty' - remembered only for being bedridden from gout. He died in power, killed the Medici line, and opened the door to more corruption.

Actions are what I need to see.

Fine, let's take age aside. If her future contribution looks like it has for the last year, she can keep them to herself. I don't like weak, spineless losers who can't take risks - especially when that's all the other side does.

Already am. Been waiting for progressives or non-corporate Dems to stop hitching their wagon to the losing DNC and start something else. Forever independent until something new and aggressive rises from all these political ashes and geriatric bodies.

Now outside the talk, what does the new fight look like? I'm not against it, but I certainly need to see how this fight would end differently than the last - through actions, not just words.

So does this mean that under Hegseth's DoD - they'll offer government sanctioned drinking celebrations where it would be acceptable for Hegseth to drink and dunk himself into a vat of champagne multiple times?
comment in response to post
Surprise - but it's not just 'low info' voters. I haven't relied on legacy media in over 15 years, and I ravenously consume info from independent sources like the Meidas Touch and will never return to cable or traditional news platforms of any persuasion.

Ugh. Disappointing. Thanks for the share.

I like this perspective. I've long since felt like 2A rights based on their spirit hardly matters anymore as long as US has drones. If the American revolution happened today, I'd be fighting for the people's rights to have lethal drone capabilities in order to fight against a tyrannical government 🤷‍♂️

Agreed. And please correct me if I'm wrong, but was it not AOC who proposed the legislation to end insider trading which failed? My memory may be faulty on that, but I at least feel like I recall AOC supported it.
comment in response to post
Who the hell voted for this? Dem House representatives? Certainly not the people. How frustrating and disappointing. Can progressives please just start their own party already? What does it take to make this happen?
comment in response to post
But I'm beyond that now. My main priority now is to vote for the party that actually *fights* against their idea of evil, rather than just the party that thinks their vote is earned for doing the bare minimum and being 'less awful.' Progressives fight. That's why they get votes.
comment in response to post
I'd say it extends beyond the youth. I'm Gen X, not Gen Z, but even I have felt like I had to hold my nose voting for Dems for several elections already because they are at least 'the lesser of two evils.'
comment in response to post
I wanna know why it would be so impossible for these fighter-Dems to start their own party and not be so hopelessly hitched to the failing mainstream Democrat wagon. What are the limitations to that?
comment in response to post
Same, I'm center left, but with how extreme the far the right is - I feel the only way to reach center balance is having a far left that has balls and can bring a fight to MAGA. You can't rebalance a scale by adding to the center.
comment in response to post
I get that, but I guess what's weird for me is that I respect the Congressmen I've got (Frost and Moskowitz), enough to join them if they started a new party at the drop of a hat, than I would want to register as a Dem.
comment in response to post
I voted blue, but I remain an independent for this reason. Only the progressive members have a spine or any fight in them.
comment in response to post
I appreciate your fight and wish the mainstream Democratic party had it in them too. Hope to keep seeing you out there fighting the fight. In the future I'd like to see you as a senator rather than in the house anyway. 🤷‍♂️
comment in response to post
Meh, I say let MSNBC go the way of the do-do bird and DNC should put all their resources into the independent media spaces. Let MSNBC shout whatever they want from the desk that no one's watching.
comment in response to post
I haven't seen them. 🤷‍♂️

Is she going for that? I just feel like her as a Congressman is bad enough - she should have stayed a CrossFit trainer and been content with that life as far as I'm concerned. She has no business in local government, let alone the US Senate or anything federal.
comment in response to post
What cheap cost are you you referring to? I recall him spending $53 billion on a media platform, and $220 million in PACs for Trump, and who else knows how much more could have been laundered in for it. Well more than coffee What exact contribution are you referencing here?

I saw things like this coming, tbh. Even for his tariffs, I expect his big donors to receive blanket importer exemptions to the point only small businesses are affected and ultimately destroyed.

Maybe it's just the wrong election to try to compare 2024 to. The election against John Adams and Andrew Jackson in 1828 was the first rematch in US history as Adams barely beat Jackson in 1824. Jackson returned in 1828 with a strong victory, as well as an authoritarian leadership style. 1828
comment in response to post
Or even earlier, honestly. There have been multiple opportunities for any strong part of the 'democratic coalition' to grow some balls and take a stand on something.
comment in response to post
I have been wondering this myself for the longest time. Why progressives have hitched themselves to the democratic party (for what I can only assume are financial and electoral reasons), only to have no individual identity and lose anyway.
comment in response to post
Yes, I actually agree with this. Especially now in dark times, anyone can be either fairly or unfairly prosecuted, and then we've got pardoning and all sorts of corrupt ways to sidestep this 'minor inconvenience.'
comment in response to post
I just use a news aggregator like Ground Zero that does all that work for me as far as scaling biases and finding blindspots. No other subscription needed and I can read most anything knowing the bias of the headline itself before reading and can pick the source I find to be the most balanced.

Not too eager to give money to those that already have. What real consequences are at play here in the end - other than perhaps a 4 month sentence and a fine, or maybe even a pardon?

Yep, without payment, that guy may also be the very person that's close to the CEO with a gun. Maybe security will become an attractive and booming industry soon.

I just think that not only healthcare, but the entire legal system should take a hard look and reevaluate how justice ultimately gets served for what are often considered 'white collar crimes.' The action and the public response to it indicates to me the people and the legal system are not in line.
