Not to mention it was not impervious in previous books. Mad Eye Moody could see through it and I assumed dementors could too. I felt that the hallows (like the half blood prince's identity) were deliberate distractions for fans who had figured out the plot.
TBF Ron's intelligence was plot based.

Social sciences are chosen on the basis of prejudice.
Racism -> anthropology
Classism -> sociology
Ableism (including mental health) -> criminology

This might depend on the intellectual calibre of the humans.

I fear that those trying to do it often seem to enjoy it, given how often it is tried.

I once read a comic where strongly worded letters were seen as the ultimate sanction and act of retaliation. They were so strongly worded they were linked to fatalities. I like to think our politicians don't believe that that comic is reality but...

How is this a surprise?

If I engage on the topic (which is rare due to the author) I tend to try and balance the problematic behaviours with those of other characters and the writing style which relies of teacher stereotypes. However, I can't ignore the arguments of the haters - they have a point.

There was a Guardian article which was interesting in many of the implications but I can't help thinking overlooked the problematic aspects of the character to focus on his marginalised status.

Historical, that sounds like a fairly average pope.

Where is Charn? I thought Charn would be there.

I don't think you have allies who will back you regardless of what atrocities you do.

That's a brilliantly clever filk - all the clever for being just two lines.

I think there a multiple Heathers jokes in that. The least is the shift from 'suicides' to 'natural causes'.

This might be easier given that the cultural trend is behind them.
I agree with others about a trend to denial. Again, no real idea, but maybe some think 'overreacting' undermines the cause?

My opinion should count for next to nothing (marginally demi but functionally cis) but I think that the way a subtle technical change will work out in practice given the wider climate and discourse can be missed if you focus on the exact wording. Anti-trans activists are able to grasp the moment.

I also wonder if it is to contain the Snape hatred which has grown in the fandom since 2007.
But really no idea.

I am inclined to agree. This makes the casting of Snape the more baffling. I can think of several unpleasant explanations about how she sees minority rights as demands for exceptionalism (she has talked about trans rights that way but it could be broader for all I know).

The fact you had to say 'genetics alone' shows the problems with the concept of biological sex are numerous.

Do we think names will be changed at all?
There is also the fact that the racism and fascism allegory isn't great in places and casting a black actor as a significant Death Eater seems likely to force this problem into sharper relief.

And it isn't as if that wasn't a risk anyway given the source material.

I worry others point were to isolate marginalised young people and and make it look like the government was doing something about abusive cultural norms without addressing them (because they would need to start with a mirror).
I could be wrong on these.

I also think the idea of sending the Telegraph crayons (instead or irate letters) might have merit.
