MCBI researchers led by Lotte de Winde developed a lymphome-on-chip model that include lymph node stromal cells (fibroblastic reticular cells), thereby offering a new model to study these cells in the development and progression of lymphoma! tinyurl.com/2mads7kr

This is going to be another rough week for our colleagues in government & for all of us. Vast cuts of govt scientists hurts everyone’s health. Let’s talk about what this will do to vaccines. This is the process. Here’s how they’re going to undermine it: www.cdc.gov/vaccines/bas...

Four species of the black yeast Aureobasidium growing on a medium with 10% NaCl. Weird how melanisation appears, disappears, reappears.

Have you ever wondered how pathobionts contribute to autoimmunity? In this week's issue of Science Translational Medicine @science.org we elucidate the mechanism how E.gallinarum influences systemic immune responses and aggravates autoimmunity.. #ImmunoSky #Microbiome www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

ÅNGSTRÖM-RESOLUTION IMAGING OF CELL-SURFACE GLYCANS 🧬🎨🍬 The glycocalyx, our cells' sugar coat, holds secrets in immunology, cancer, viral infections, and more. Visualizing its molecular architecture was impossible… until now. #glycotime #microscopy www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Interested in research on cell-cell junctions and vascular biology? We are recruiting a PhD student! werkenbij.amsterdamumc.org/en/vacatures...

1. A thread about the value of doing "slow science": When I was in grad school I heard this (likely apocryphal) story about one of my favourite scientists: Barbara McClintock.

Completely agree @profandrewmac.bsky.social! A pleasure to work with wonderful colleagues at several institutions including @mrccmm.bsky.social, @lydiabeckeriii.bsky.social and @uoe-eid.bsky.social. Fungi are major causes of asthma but why our immune cells do this is poorly understood.

I remember being sceptical reading some papers from the early 2000’s on rapid effects of androgens. And now several recent papers have now described membrane receptors for androgens (see also doi.org/10.1126/scis...)! And one already has an agonist!

So this is a really interesting new paper. It shows that dihydrotestosterone can be sensed via a surface receptor and this surface receptor (GPR133) is what mediates the strength gains from the androgen. A major reason this is interesting is that canonically, steroid hormones act by diffusing...

*PhD project available funded by BBSRC WoH DLP,*. Are you interested in viral and fungal immunity? Keen to use learn the latest cutting edge technologies to address this working with partners at UKHSA? If yes then please reach out. Further details at: www.surrey.ac.uk/bbsrc-wessex...

🚨Job Alert 🚨 Post-doc position working on Candida anti-fungals based at the @mrccmm.bsky.social in Exeter and embedded within a national team of scientists and clinicians. Apply before February 12th. jobs.exeter.ac.uk/hrpr_webrecr...

Bluetorial-A dream and a bit of a nightmare Serving as Editor-in-Chief at Science was fascinating. I greatly enjoyed working with talented and committed editorial, news, graphics, and production staff. But the inside look into scientific publishing and AAAS was also deeply disillusioning.

An exciting opportunity for a PDRA to join the Fungi-CARE team seeking novel antifungal regimens that protect antifungal drug utility. Background on Fungi-CARE project £3.2M from MRC and Apply here www.linkedin.com/posts/maaike....

Two recent-ish papers provide good reminders of timeless lessons. 1) From @vidigaljoana.bsky.social: "the process of clonal expansion alone resulted in levels of clonal variation extensive enough to essentially preclude us from determining the functional impact of [miRNA] binding site disruption"

What a way to finish the year—with an important new paper led by two amazing PhDs, Skye Stanwich and Ezra Oosthoek. In it we analyze normative assumptions in evidence for gender-affirming medical treatment for adolescents. rdcu.be/d4ZzE

We are looking for a #postdoc to join us at the HKI and focus on host RNA processing during the immune response to human fungal pathogens. Experience with Aspergillus, Candida, or Rhizopus is a plus. Start date is ASAP, and ad will follow soon. Please share! #RNAsky #RNAbiology #microsky #fungi

In the mucosal immunology session Myrthe van Delft presented her research on the novel mice model to study the role of IgA in vivo. The project was performed together with the Lambrecht group @viblifesciences.bsky.social

Today is the beginning of the Dutch Society for Immunology Winterschool! Our department is well represented, starting with Sofía Ibáñez-Molero who presented past and future work on investigating the direct interaction between tumor cells and immune cells!

Have you ever wondered whether pyroptotic corpses have functions beyond the grave? We made the surprising discovery that pyroptotic corpses are flagged by #filopodia to alert #DendriticCells they need autopsy. A short Bluetorial (1/13)👇with movies! Link: rdcu.be/d2mjm

1/23 Big news for the #ObenaufLab! So excited to finally share our new study providing another puzzle piece, why immunotherapy fails in many tumors, now out in @Nature 🧵👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Our team is hiring a PhD student for a 4-year project to study the link between glycosylation profile and responses to immunotherapy in Amsterdam with the 🦋-less Sandra van Vliet. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! #glycotime #Immunosky werkenbij.amsterdamumc.org/en/vacatures...

This one is for the #glycotime community: has anyone tried to cleave Lewis X/CD15 from the surface a live mammalian cells using a recombinant fucosidase? I found single paper from 2007 but curious if anyone else has a recent protocol to share 😬
