This idea that people only have value if they have productive value is one of the worst pieces of brainwashing that capitalism has drilled into people. It's abhorrent, at odds with reality, and a byproduct of a system that requires unemployment.

Some sensible thoughts on it here: www.polygon.com/opinion/5351...

People are being really careful to frame criticism of this event around declarations of respect for panelists. The star system that these people represent thrives on that hedging. What we need here is vulgar Marxism.

i am so frustrated by the predominance of private institutional representation on this list, both in education & employment of speakers

In an attempt to be generous I'm wondering if some of these folks only knew the name of the panel they are speaking on and then overall event/poster detail was finalized later. Unlikely, but possible I suppose...

I am against this framing about the “end” of univs very strongly and find it really enraging. Despite having respect for some of these people, whether you find that surprising or not!

If you like any of that, go buy and support their work, especially the new names.

Possibly the reputedly huge amount of publishers that rejected it had a point!

It was *that* repulsive, yes, why would I forget it? And it’s not as if anyone ever apologised. A disgraceful incident like that and the Osbourne one tells you a lot about the lack of integrity of everyone involved.

I used to like Would I Lie To You, but both the McKenzie appearance and the chortling reaction to Sharon Osbourne describing endangering an employee’s life in a fire (and her contempt for his distress and fear) really chilled me.

Like: you forgot that happening?

Even Osman tweeted regret like he somehow hadn’t been there on the day.

Good though Deborah Ann Woll is, you don’t need Karen or Foggy, and their appearances here are pretty token. Gets in the way of the moody buildup (Which I enjoyed: I liked the endings of both episodes)

It’s clear the idea when the bulk of it was filmed before the showrunner change was to start full speed ahead with a different love interest & new law partner for Matt, with Cox & D’Onofrio playing a possibly different Matt & Fisk to the Netflix version. Should have stuck to it.
