Cold comfort for the poor whose social safety nets have been cut away. It would make more sense for the money to be sent to states for implementing replacement programs where the federal government has cut and run. Also...20%? Why not 100%? Looks like illegal appropriations.

Well, we were never really the "good guys", were we? This country has done some admirable things, and also some terrible things.

Thanks, I learned something today.

I think people are just desensitized at this point. There is no organized opposition to these radical actions. Steve Bannon's "flood the zone" strategy is working. The truth is either inaccessible or unwanted. Honestly, I don't know how we can recover from this, as a society.

Nobody stands at Trump's side. He's above. He's out in front. Everyone else, take a back seat. 🙄https://media0.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExM3d5OG9uNmI4MXIxNHV3aWt2YTBseGlzY2U3ZG4xNThqNXNsNXU4ZyZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/b1EZSDVEf92PS/giphy.gif

Donald Trump, 2005: “Just kiss. I don’t even wait. When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.” That's his reasoning. He thinks the rules don't apply to him. Unfortunately, he has generally been correct about that.

FWIW...income tax evasion is the vehicle that ultimately led to prison time for the nation's most notorious criminals. Democrats have been decrying tax laws that unfairly benefit the wealthy for decades...so naturally, the new oligarchs would love to wield this weapon against their enemies.

Can't public schools simply reject federal funding? Public elementary and secondary schools only receive 7.6% of their funding from the federal government [https://usafacts.org/articles/how-are-public-schools-funded/]. Seems like a small price to pay.

He'll probably make Barron his AI Czar. And if that doesn't work, Steve "We're Going To Rip Your Face Off" Bannon is lurking in the shadows, ready to sic his followers on Elon.

"Their" goal is not to nurture new minds and sustain civilized society. "Their" goal is to exploit and enslave AI to increase wealth.

Trump casts aside America's deeply-held, long-standing relationships like they were his marriages. The only thing that means anything to him is today's transaction.

Homan is a thug. The entire administration uses similar gangster tactics to intimidate and coerce.

State legislatures are more influenced by the concerns of their constituency (vs. party), and a grass-roots rejection of federal leadership has the best chance of getting traction there. Things would have to get pretty dire for this to trigger, but I'm confident we'll get there.

It would be reasonable to set a high bar for a successful no-confidence vote...say 75% of states...same as a constitutional amendment.

If the administration fails to comply, this probably won't be resolved by the federal government. One lasting solution would be to amend the US constitution (via constitutional convention) to provide for some sort of no-confidence vote.

I'd lay money that we're going to actually try this policy from 2020:

To be sure, China will happily continue to win hearts and minds on the African continent, and develop it into a trading partner to supplant the US in the coming decades.

"Ironically for an administration purportedly focused on cost-cutting, the renaming process...would ultimately cost around $8 million." Well, you can't really put a price on petty revenge, can you?
