WYOMING: “Thank you, Madam chairman.” “I prefer ‘Mister’ chairman.” “Well you all voted preferred pronouns cannot be compelled speech.”

If you’re wondering why I declined to talk to the NYTimes, then you haven’t been following my account for very long. They bear a direct responsibility for the current situation we find ourselves in, and I responded by laying out my position and that I would only talk to @jamellebouie.net

True story: a few years ago, I was being interviewed by a reporter for the New York Times. I mentioned the history of eviction statutes and how they tied into Jim Crow. The reporter asked "what's Jim Crow?" When I explained, the reporter didn't believe me and said the US wouldn't do that.

Quite an exchange here between Judge Reyes and DOJ attorney on how "pronoun usage" affects military readiness.

This is why you fight these cowards. The moment you stand up to them, they crumble. Homan has nothing. The Fourth Amendment is clear and I am well within my duties to educate people of their rights. He can threaten me with jail and call names all he wants. He’s got nothing else.

Laraine, Gilda, and Jane, together again.

It's getting tiring to keep saying this, but for posterity's sake I will: any previous administration would have been instantly sunk by this. Before January 20, 2017, this would have been the most stunning corruption scandal in the history of the American justice system. Now, it's...a Thursday.

I want to piggyback on this by saying maybe your money is better spent supporting us at @flmfrkcentral.bsky.social. Our staff? 100% Diverse, Equal & Inclusive; we speak out about genocide & fascism at some cost to us; our content? Free & has been for 30yrs. Help us. www.patreon.com/flmfrkcentra...

the idea that these tech guys are opposed to "government waste" is so completely fucking ridiculous. they feast on government waste. DOD budgets are a bloated mess. the pentagon has failed 7 straight audits. the big beneficiaries are tech companies providing defense services.

we are getting stories crazier than watergate every single day and no one bats an eye at them anymore. society has hypernormalized intense corruption that it feels like NOT being openly corrupt hinders you

Reminder that whenever someone says "gender ideology," they're referring to the mere existence of trans people, not an ideology. This is eliminationist garbage.

There is no content on that website—nothing. White House reporters just get herded from room to room and lied to in each one.

That's good but "ordering" them how? Who is going to make sure they comply? The answer, we're seeing with all these court orders, is no one. And Musk has plainly said he doesn't give a shit. So now what?

I have seen people get thrown face-down onto a hard floor for failing to follow a judge's orders. I have seen people sent to Rikers Island for refusing to follow a judge's order. Courts have plenty of hard power. But they only have practice using it against poor people.

If your boss or company tells you to do something unethical: don't say yes. Make them write it down.

A short and amazing 1970 documentary directed by a black woman about the revolutionary actions of black women hospital workers in Charleston who unionized and went on strike. Very powerful and available to watch on YouTube. I wrote a a few paragraphs about on Letterboxd. boxd.it/8Km4FT

These DOGE guys' phone numbers & addresses are easy to find, in case anyone wants to file a FOIA request for all their communications (including those on any personal devices used to conduct government business), or serve them with evidence preservation demand letters in anticipation of litigation

I'm glad that America is doing real classic end of empire stuff. A king who is visibly losing his mind declaring a war based on a dream he had. Greedy courtiers feuding over access to the treasury. Some looks are timeless.

Any Dem congressperson could round up a few friendly and alarmed FBI agents right now and go arrest Musk’s gang of children. “Just fucking do it and see what happens” is a stronger move for the side that is upholding the law.

As a historian I have some guesses about the ways this will be resolved and you'll be shocked to hear all of them are bad and none of them are things I'll be posting here.

Yes. While there are absolutely things Democrats can and must do to slow, obstruct, etc, GOP hold both House and Senate majorities, severely limiting our options. Johnson and Thune are handing over the own keys and relinquishing their own power. Even for the cynics this should be a shock.

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country

Well, we knew they would blame the plane crash on DEI, and Trump's sycophants will just nod their heads even though it is a nonsensical claim. I don't know how Republicans live with themselves. I really don't. And frankly, most of those Democrats, too, as they put up no resistance.

US liberals talk about protecting democracy a lot but they seem to revile it in practice. the idea that a politician should ever be required to do anything to win votes, rather than simply represent an amorphously 'good' or 'bad' team, is treated as some sick heresy

The 14th amendment is crystal clear, but because I’m a law school professor at a prestigious university, I’m going to pretend that the arguments that other law school professors at prestigious universities are making about its ambiguity have some kind of merit.

There’s no version of modern conservatism that doesn’t end up like this, there’s no version of capitalism that doesn’t result in burning the world and massacring the people of the global south.

Democrats must start with the truth that, because the Republican Party is an insurrectionist organization that opposes humanity and reality, they are fundamentally illegitimate—that any position any Republican holds is held illegitimately, and proceed accordingly. www.the-reframe.com/the-moon-is-...

Chandrashekhar Azad the Indian freedom fighter once evaded British police looking for him on a train by disguising himself as the conducttor and escorting them from car to car helping them search

Whenever SCOTUS makes an unconstitutional ruling, state governors should do what Joe Biden should have done: announce that the court has delegitimized itself by making such a ruling, and declare that their state will not recognize the rulings of an illegitimate court.
