I know the angry town halls don’t seem productive, but they make a substantial difference, both now and down the line.

I literally reported this Wednesday.

Congrats to Trump’s new picks for top military posts for meeting the job description. You don’t have to say yes, you know.

We should renounce this racket at the earliest opportunity

This is climate arson, yes, but also the entire value proposition of Tesla, the reason for its insane stock price, is that it would end up the Amazon of electric cars: the only real game in town. Killing off non-Tesla electric car infrastructure is a gift to Musk.

Since we are in dangerous times now, a tip to all left of center folks: Don’t argue with tankies, because they are probably narcs. Just block them and move on.

Yes, it is entirely correct to point out that ICE officers do not have any legal authority to break into somebody’s home unless they get a judicial warrant; which they generally cannot do, because judges only issue warrants for probable cause of crimes, not immigration law violations.

today in breaking laws no matter how obscure, ladies and gentlemen, the Goldwater-Nichols Act

If there was ever a time for the Dean Scream, it is now.

Whoever wrote that line about “mired in diversity issues” should be fired

““We did not elect him,” a man shouted. As the town hall reached its scheduled end, more constituents shouted questions about Musk’s access to taxpayer data and yelled “don’t lie to us””

Well, "I would like to have loyalists in place who are willing to shred the constitution and allow me to do illegal actions" is a reason.

WaPo Page One: “If you’re going to just yell at me, that’s not going to be an effective town hall,” McCormick said .. “But we’re pissed!” a woman shouted. #GA07 www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

One aspect of doing a political purge of the military and civil service is you can't come back in afterwards and just revert to status quo ante policies. A counter-purge becomes a necessity before you can then restore usual norms and protections. The people he's installing can't be left in place.

When these inaccuracies were first found, they could be called "mistakes." When DOGE took efforts to cover them up, they can no longer be considered "mistakes."

Some things to know about General Brown: - 41 years of military service - F16 fighter pilot and instructor with 3000 flight hours, 130 in combat - Master’s in aeronautical science - son of a U.S. Army colonel and Vietnam veteran - grandson of a WW2 veteran

Gee, why isn't DOGE flagging this as wasteful spending? www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

DOGE’s accounting of its “savings” is riddled with sloppy mistakes. The five largest cuts that it listed on its website earlier this week were all incorrect — making the savings look far larger than they were in reality.

Tesla Paid Zero Federal Income Tax in 2024, Despite $2.3 Billion in Income This brings Tesla’s average tax rate over the past three years to 0.4 percent. truthout.org/articles/tes...

1/US demands Ukrainian minerals or face cutoff from Starlink. It is the most venal form of economic coercion. And it will only accelerate the backlash to US tech platforms. Now Starlink = AWS = Facebook for friends and foes alike. www.reuters.com/business/us-...

"casually" is the key word here. As @abenewman.bsky.social and I say - www.nytimes.com/2025/02/17/o... - the Trump administration seems to assume there is no cost or risk to weaponizing infrastructure for short term advantage.

New — All Department of Defense agencies were sent a video of an agitated Pete Hegseth debunking supposedly fake media stories. Today at least one agency called an “emergency” town hall and forced employees to watch the propaganda. www.dvidshub.net/video/953069...

Weaponised interdependence along the lines described by @abenewman.bsky.social and @himself.bsky.social over access to raw materials, as discussed by @edconway.bsky.social. If you haven’t listened to this week’s Rethink now’s your chance. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

So they removed the black chairman of the Joint Chiefs in the middle of his 4-year tour, without cause, and they're seeking to replace him with a white **retired** Air Force three-star general who lacks the requisite experience as a service chief or combatant commander? Huh, how about that

Remarkable: Trump's own pollster just found that in swing House districts, Dems lead by 5 points and voters want tax policy to prioritize working people, per Politico. Yet GOP is about to brutally slash the safety net and give the rich huge tax cuts! New piece: newrepublic.com/article/1918...

Stop mass deportations with this one simple trick: wapo.st/41apYFB (gift link)

Refugees in the US *give money* to US taxpayers. From 2005–2019, refugees paid $123.8 billion more in taxes than they received in expenditures: aspe.hhs.gov/reports/fisc... That's federal, state, and local combined. Everything. Now we have obliterated that low-cost, high-return investment—>

Say what you will about kings but they used to die in hilariously gory ways. We haven't seen a proper traditional slapstick death in a long time, it's mostly boring old age instead of getting stabbed by an assassin hiding in the toilet while taking a shit and not being noticed til they began to rot

U.S. Rep. Rich McCormick was peppered with boos and catcalls throughout a town hall meeting in Roswell late Thursday, as hundreds of critics jeered the Republican for backing President Donald Trump’s agenda during his first month in office. #gapol ajc.com/politics/mcc...

More of this

Trumps devotion to Caine seems to have started when he donned a maga cap to brief Trump while deployed in Iraq

Down 29.6% over the past 60 days

it is shocking the extent to which they openly sneer at morality

You can really feel the anti-Trump sentiment building, and it's not Kitchen-Table Americans complaining about egg prices, it's about the contempt for the rule of law, the reckless cuts, the abandonment of allies, the mistreatment of other Americans

Be clear about what you are seeing. The firing of these senior officers has nothing to do with competence. This is creating an oath of loyal by the Armed Forces to the Leader. We face an uncertain future.

I am fine with the US negotiating to get access to rare earth minerals anywhere in the world ... through willing exchange and investment. Not by duress. Not as loot gained by carving up a people's freedom.

They can't even do evil right

Trump has fired the chairman of the joint chiefs, Air Force Gen. CQ Brown, Jr., five months into a four year term, per WSJ. Brown was the first black officer to serve as chairman of the joint chiefs. www.wsj.com/politics/nat...

Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.
