Allegheny County is one of the few places in the country where Dem turnout was equal to or better than 2020. No shame here.

This is potentially protective of those already in the institution, as well. There is no magic pool of money public universities without massive endowments are drawing upon. Resistance is possible but pretending they aren’t threatening the funding is not it.

Where can we find this data? I have been wondering about it because I am aware there might be smaller regional crashes all the time that I just don’t know about

Drive to DC from Pittsburgh yesterday instead of flying. Considering not going to a conference in Oregon next month because I can’t drive there, but waiting to see if this track record keeps up

Anecdotally, last night at a small conference I heard of several grad students with non-academic, private sector jobs lined up for after graduation whose offers had been pulled rescinded because the positions they were to be hired for was pulled

I am an academic. Actual policing is almost non-existent & completely non-binding; the worst consequence is minor internalized shame. More often, it's just academics falling all over themselves to ask what the "correct" language is and being told there is none (with the exception of obvious slurs).

There is also a *very early stages* movement afoot for Dems to just block and/or unanimously "no" vote everything they can, including all nominations, until someone reigns in Elon Musk. So that may also affect things.

He is not confirmed, and confirmation looks shakier than it has for other nominees.

This is what I ultimately did because the other forms involved more concrete details. Contacted my congressman and senators as well.

I cannot recommend SAD light glasses enough for this. Have slept through the night every night since about a week after I started using them regularly in the morning. All the rest is still there in the morning but at least if I can get to sleep I can stay asleep.

Never would've seen the headlines if I'd just gone to sleep when the kids went to sleep.

"Luckily" with the freezing of all federal grants and loans, there may now be some convergence between "economic issues" and "stopping facism." Maybe? 😬

Yes, as I said, they are now. This did not happen last time. It is worse this time.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "this happened last time." There was a communications blackout, but all study sections and ongoing meetings did not get cancelled the last time he took office, as is happening now. I also depend on NIH funding, and did so in 2016 as well.

Curious if the NSF has also experienced widespread study section / grant review meeting cancellations (as the NIH has)?

I administered that training once to all incoming teaching assistants at my university. Some earnestly nodded at this safe wisdom. Others simply scoffed.

I know several women who have lost their gallbladders. (It often follows rapid weight gain and/or loss and so can come after a pregnancy.) All are fine. There can be some difficulties with eating rich foods in the future.

It's almost like the NYT thrives when "Dems are in disarray." In addition to their anti-trans fuckery.
