Just like in the 1930s!

I guess that’s true in that once you get the disease, you’re no longer healthy.

I feel like you could accidentally comply with at least 20%.

In retrospect, the previous administration should have made Trump himself the test case for this kind of presidential power.

I guess it’s a good thing idolatry isn’t a sin.

And I live in Texas for gosh sakes.

Even my youngest son’s teachers went along with his name change before we went to the trouble of having it legally changed. Granted, we were supporting the change as parents, but teachers followed my kid’s wishes even before we got directly involved in order to get his school email, etc. changed.

In a misguided attempt to seem cool in high school, I started going by the name Tommy. Nobody threw a fit of any kind, and every one of my teachers went along with my request for all four years of high school. Everyone would’ve thought it insane if those teachers had been fired over it.

Not to mention that the state of Texas requires identification to get a birth certificate (though an expired DL works if you have another document). Thankfully, I was able to get a copy for him (his other three kids couldn't figure it out), so he should be able to vote next time.

My Dad is 80 years old. I don't agree with the people he votes for, but I support his right to vote. He currently cannot because his Driver's License expired, and he had no idea how one would get a copy of his birth certificate at this point (he wasn't even 100% sure which state he was born in).

Seems like a bigger problem with voter fraud comes from people like Hood County (TX) Republican Party Chair Eva Royer who listed a false address as her residence for voting purposes. This, of course, seems to be only selectively prosecuted.

I can imagine my kid being challenged by some voting big-shot-wannabe because his "original" birth certificate has a different name than his legal name (as shown on his amended birth certificate).
comment in response to post
When we went to get a DL for my kid, the clerk was skeptical about accepting the amended birth certificate and insisted that we produce the paperwork from the court showing his legal name change, even though Texas AG/Giant Dipshit Ken Paxton gas directed the DPS to not accept court orders.

At least Kameela got a respectable job after Real World instead of becoming a FOX News idiot/Secretary of Cowards.

I can't even get someone from Ted Cruz' office to call me back, let alone get an actual call through to the Tedster himself.

It was 1993 before American companies even offered right-hand drive vehicles for sale in Japan. (The first was a Jeep Cherokee). It’s like we weren’t even trying.

That’s why I would be an excellent president since my over-riding obsession is quoting classic-era Simpsons. And that would definitely make for a better country.

The “I prefer the touch of a man” position doesn’t seem like the more heterosexual position.

How is sewing my own Ed Hardy shirts going to make me more manly?

Man, it wasn't long ago that doing something the duly-passed law said you could do in a way that was potentially novel required a new law written because of the "Major Questions Doctrine" now it's just a free-for-all again. I assume the Major Questions Doctrine will go back into slumber until 2029.

I recall in 2017 when this guy passed his Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, quite a few people noted that it encouraged companies to move operations overseas (specifically investments in tangible assets) in order to avoid US Tax. So, you know, if trade really was theft, Trump was manning the getaway car.

I can totally 3D print a wing for a 737 in my garage using the 3D printer I bought at Home Depot.

I don't know why they bother filing these things knowing that, no matter what the Supreme Court decides, they not going to bring the dude back.

We are ten minutes away from people destroying their glasses so they won't look "too smart" and run afoul of the regime. (I know that's more Pol Pot, but still...)

And according to the administration, they could have immediately legally deported Noriega and sent him to prison in El Salvador with no way to get him back and there would be no recourse anyone could pursue.

If you invest $5 million in Trump's America, you aren't going to have $5 million for very long.

I'd note too that a lot of Americans are still employed in manufacturing jobs, almost 13 million. Compared to October, 1955 when there were just under 16 million. It was 1979 when the US had the highest number of factory jobs at just under 20 million.

There's actually a factory in that town now that builds aircraft, but with the administration pushing away our allies and with the tariffs, it will be significantly more difficult for that factory to survive. There's also a nuclear weapons plant, but Elon fired a bunch of people who worked there.

When I was a kid, Levi's still had a factory in my home town. We did a tour there when I was in elementary school. It didn't appear to be all that fulfilling as a creative pursuit, and it was low paying.

Every dude is allowed to guy buy a saw and start building furniture if he wants to do manual labor.

Tariffs would have to 1. have no effect on import prices/volume and 2. be set at about 125% across the board to replace current tax revenue (and then cut $2 trillion/year in spending to balance the budget, which is something else the dude promised).

Societal loss sounds better than "deadweight" loss as my econ professors used to call it.

I can't believe I used to actually respect Larry Kudlow. I guess the cocaine made him seem more reasonable back in the day.

I mean, I'm a native Texan. It's not like I don't already have a gun, an unearned swagger, and an over-inflated ego.

If my grandmother were still alive, she would absolutely do it. Taking on a bunch of modern US Marshals would be a cakewalk compared to most of the shit she dealt with in her life. But since she's passed on, I will do it in her honor if called upon. Who do I need to call to volunteer for this duty?

I can't imagine why people who support a political party (and television "news" network) that spends ninety percent of their time telling to be afraid of everything would be afraid of everything.

I ride the train all the time in Dallas. It's about as suburban a thing as you can imagine. Rode downtown for college, and took my family to the zoo and to events at the AAC or Perot or aquarium or Arts District. But I was never on the Real World, so I guess I'm not a transportation expert.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I kinda think that people having widespread access to things made in China like iPhones has allowed for a number of dreams and aspirations of young people to be fulfilled if their dreams were tied in any way to communications or the technology sector.
