I bet all those Christmas Ghosts are getting super tired of having to go visit Elon again every year in the vain hope that he finally gets it.

People like my mother-in-law will be six months into checks not coming anymore before she starts to complain, and then she'll blame people from New York City while just barely stopping herself from uttering a racial slur.

While states have been allowed in the past to exclude candidates from the ballot who didn't meet the Constitutional requirements (Linda Jenness in 1972 was removed from the Ohio ballot but appeared on 25 state ballots despite being 31 years old, for example), the current court seems disinclined.

(And in Trump v. Anderson, the Court wrote that since Congress had previously exercised their amnesty power under the 14th Amendment to ensure elected candidates could take office, states had no power to keep those candidates off the ballot.)

Or the emoluments clause which is, you know, in there but worth absolutely nothing.

I mean, Republicans can just put him on the ballot and dare the Congress to stop him if he wins... just like with the Insurrection Clause which is, you know, there in the Constitution but worth less-than-nothing in actually preventing such a person from taking office.

And this information didn't even make the newspaper in Amarillo, Texas (home of Pantex, the nation's primary nuclear weapon assembly and disassembly facility) where reportedly 30% of the Trump 'accidental' job cuts were made.

Crazy how so many Republican presidents begged for a line-item veto so they could control spending without vetoing the entire budget when they apparently had it all along according to some grown ass man who willingly calls himself Chip.

Shelley Luther's entire career in politics is owed to her purposely defying COVID lockdowns because she didn't give a shit if people died. That she's cruel is no surprise as it's her thing. But that so many people want to vote for that is insanity to me.

They weren’t dressed properly to enter. Need the water buffalo hat, bare chest, and red/white/blue painted face.

Everybody remembers Seth Doege and his thrilling Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas victory over Minnesota where he put up a stunning 271 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs. Definitely one for the ages.

I mean, Cleveland hasn't won a World Series since they had Larry Doby and Satchel Paige on the roster.

My Dad is an anesthesiologist, and those extra twenties helped him get me a sweet Trans Am for my 16th birthday.

I once had a tax client who had a business in Colombia exporting flowers. Seeing how much the business made, I had always assumed it was a front for the drug trade. But I guess Colombia really does export flowers.

A lot of MAGAs will find a way to blame someone other than Trump no matter what, but a significantly larger number of people who voted for Trump won’t routinely point the blame at others. Of course, it’s important for Democrats to continually point out when things are made more expensive.

This is painfully close to what my Dad did to get his felony conviction.

I have an unnatural hatred of Steve Miller Band, mostly because of Take the Money and Run, but if you have to have a Steve Miller Band song associated with you, Abracadabra is almost acceptable.

He could've just spent his golden years collecting speaking fees and writing books about 9/11 and being 'America's Mayor' but he wasn't happy unless he was tearing other people down.

I miss that so-very-brief period when Ken Anderson resigned his judgeship and spent a couple of days in jail after he was found to have withheld potentially exculpatory evidence in the Michael Morton case when he was DA. The county even booted out his lackey from the DA's office next election.

Despite Republicans controlling both the House and Senate at the time, Rogers' bill never made it out of Committee.

During the 2016 campaign, Trump's website had a plan to pay for the wall by taxing remittances from the US to Mexico (like when people in the US wire money to people in Mexico). Rep Mike Rogers (R-Ala) introduced a bill to do just that in 2017, though it wouldn't have raised enough for the wall.

If you're going to go all stupid conspiracy theory, at least go with the former CIA guy that the CIA HQ is named after and who happened to be Vice President when AIDS was first diagnosed in the US. It's not like MAGA Republicans like GHWB.

So, if I were a wealthy man who wanted to curry some favor with some judges, I could just have my company buy really expensive homes and allow the judges to stay there full time and they'd never have to disclose it.

Democrats then spent four years waiting for the next election so they could run an "acceptable" Democrat for the position. Clay Jenkins ultimately won. Foster came in third in the primary. Same 2006 election got Dallas Craig Watkins as DA, which was transformational for the office.

County Judge in Texas is a position akin to mayor but at the county level. It's an executive position, not a judicial one. Anyway, dude had raised like $8,400 for his campaign. No other Democrat supported him, figuring the whole thing was a lost cause. And then he won.
comment in response to post
I'll never forget the near-panic when Dallas County went almost entirely Democrat after years of Republicans in charge in county-wide positions. A guy named Jim Foster, who was the type to just run for election without any hope of winning ended up winning County Judge...

Usually South Dallas or East Dallas, miles and miles away from where the houses were being built. Rental prices didn't go down, though, when immigrants were unable to come back to work.
comment in response to post
I mean, supply and demand and all that. Problem is that without immigrants, there weren't enough workers to keep up with the demand for labor. So fewer units were built and those that were built were sold at a higher price point. That meant lost money for builders, realtors, cities (from taxes), etc
comment in response to post
One of the drivers of construction cost increases in the last few years in my area has been builders having to pay more for labor after immigration slowed before and during COVID.

My first wedding was on the anniversary of an IRA bombing that killed 8 British soldiers and wounded 28 others. My second wedding was on the anniversary of an IRA bombing outside BBC HQ. I should definitely be investigated by Congress over that.

The air conditioners were out in at least two schools in our district today here in suburban Texas. Perfect day for it. Of course, my daughter's employer has outright refused to fix the A/C there after it broke months ago. I guess Dairy Queen workers and customers don't need to be cool.
