In the wealthiest nation on earth, 25% of seniors should not be living on $15,000 a year or less. We should EXPAND Social Security, not cut it. I will soon be introducing legislation to significantly raise Social Security benefits and extend the solvency of the program.

Legislation that I passed and was funded by Congress, Solar for All, could reduce electric bills for working class families by 80%. The Trump Admin is refusing to release the money in order to protect the profits of fossil fuel billionaires. Unacceptable. Release the funds NOW.

Working class Americans live 6 years shorter lives than the wealthy. Doctors believe economic stress is a major factor in that disparity. I asked Americans to describe how stress impacts their lives & well-being. The responses were heartbreaking. Here are some of them:

Winston Churchill was right: "Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those other forms that have been tried.” Too many Americans have fought and died defending democracy. We must stand with our European allies against the authoritarianism of Putin and Trump.

Republicans will soon bring forward a “reconciliation” bill, that encapsulates the value system of greed and their obedience to oligarchy. It is the economic essence of Trumpism. It will make the rich richer & the poor poorer. It must be defeated. And we can defeat it.

Trump and his American oligarchs are now openly aligning themselves with Putin and his Russian oligarchs. This Putin-Trump alliance means abandoning our allies, supporting authoritarianism and undermining our democratic traditions.

Veterans deserve the best health care available. At a time when the VA is already understaffed, these layoffs will hurt veterans. Unacceptable. Trump must not cut VA health care so that he can give tax breaks to Musk and other billionaires. The VA must rescind this order.

While Trump appoints 13 billionaires to his cabinet and Musk, Bezos and Zuckerberg see their wealth increase by $217 billion since the election, 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, 25% of seniors live on $15g or less and millions cannot afford rent. SAY NO TO OLIGARCHY.

Republicans aren’t hiding anything. Their priorities are written in black and white: trillions of dollars in tax breaks to the rich, while making savage cuts to Medicaid, housing, nutrition and education. The reconciliation bill will make the rich even richer and the poor poorer.

While Trump “floods the zone,” we must stay focused.  NO to oligarchy, tax breaks for the rich and cuts to working class programs. NO to authoritarianism and unlimited power for one man. YES to growing the union movement and raising wages. YES to health care as a human right.

European friends: Do not accept lectures on democracy & freedom of speech from an Administration that denies the 2020 election results and is now suing & intimidating news outlets whose reporting they don’t like. Stand tall against right-wing extremism. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/w...

Public education is the backbone of American democracy. In the richest country in the history of the world, we cannot abandon our teachers and our public schools.

As Robert F Kennedy becomes Secretary of HHS we must remember that “Just asking questions” about vaccines, and casting doubt on well-established science could have fatal consequences. Researchers estimate over 300,000 South Africans died because their leaders denied scientific truths.

77% of the American people want to cap credit card interest rates. It is about time that we listened to them. Congress must provide financial relief to working families struggling to pay for the high price of groceries, rent, gasoline, and prescription drugs.

At a time of massive income & wealth inequality, Republicans in Congress just introduced a budget to provide trillions in tax breaks to the wealthy, paid for by massive cuts to Medicaid that will throw millions of kids off health care & seniors out of nursing homes. Unacceptable.

Conservative billionaires are funding a coordinated effort to dismantle public education to pay for private school vouchers that largely benefit wealthy families and enable corporations to avoid their fair share in taxes. Now they have a friend in the White House.

This is Oligarchy. The three richest men in the world have become $196 BILLION richer since Donald Trump was elected. $196 billion for three men in 99 days. Meanwhile, 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck.

The top health care companies in America spent 95% of their profits to make their CEOs & stockholders obscenely rich. How many Americans would be alive today if those companies spent $2.6 trillion on disease prevention and primary care, instead of stock buybacks and dividends?

Working class Americans have a significantly shorter lifespan than people who are wealthy. Why? Economic stress can have a major impact upon your body, your mind & how long you live. I’d love to hear from you: How has stress affected your heath? outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet/E...

47,000+ Palestinians killed. 111,000 injured. Trump’s response? Forcibly expel Palestinians to make Gaza “a real estate development for the future. A beautiful piece of land.”  No. Gaza must be rebuilt for the Palestinian people, not billionaire tourists.

At least $12 *trillion* from global oligarchs is hidden offshore in secret tax havens worldwide. And it is headquartered right here in the USA. Instead of cutting lifesaving programs like the VA, Medicaid, and food stamps, we should be cracking down on tax havens for the ultra-rich.

Republicans want to slash Medicaid — a death sentence for thousands of Americans. Medicaid provides health care to more than 37 million kids, funding for 2/3 of seniors in nursing homes & is 40% of the revenue for community health centers.  We must EXPAND Medicaid, not cut it.

Our current health care system is not designed to provide quality care to all people. It is designed to make huge profits for insurance & drug companies. In that sense, the system is working very well. But it is not working for the average American. We need Medicare for All.

Trump claims he’s on the side of the working class. Really?

Is the criteria to be an FBI agent swearing allegiance to the Constitution? Or is it swearing allegiance to Donald Trump?

By illegally neutering the National Labor Relations Board, Trump has enabled Jeff Bezos to ignore the union victory at Whole Foods in Philadelphia. Trump has given the green light to corporations to violate labor law with impunity. Unacceptable. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

The "peace candidate" Trump wants to force 2 million Palestinians from their homes, give another $1 billion in weapons to Netanyahu, and enact a "plan" to turn the decimated Gaza strip into a billionaires' Riviera. If this is his "peace" policy, I'd hate to see his war policy.

Musk, Zuckerberg and Bezos are working with Trump for one very simple reason: They understand that Trump's policies are designed to make the wealthiest Americans even richer. These three men have become $232 billion richer since November. Not bad in a couple of months time!

I voted to reject RFK Jr.'s nomination to HHS. I cannot in good conscience support someone who denies and will dilute our public health protections, sow distrust in science, and oversee massive cuts to health care programs for vulnerable Americans.

Trump pledged to cap credit card interest rates at 10%. Today, I introduced legislation with Sen. Hawley to do just that. We cannot continue to allow big banks to rip-off Americans by charging outrageously high credit card interest rates of 25 or 30%. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/04/b...

Just like Bezos and Musk wished, Trump neutered the National Labor Relations Board. Now, union-busting corporations can exploit their employees with impunity. Last I checked, that's not standing with workers the way Trump promised.

The US spends 2x more per capita on health care than any other nation. Yet 85 million are uninsured or underinsured, 68,000 die because they can’t afford a doctor & we pay the highest prices in the world for Rx drugs. Health care is a human right. We must pass Medicare for All.

Trump’s unilateral decision to impose a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico is most likely illegal and most definitely harmful.  Economists estimate that these will increase costs for the average American family by as much as $1,200 a year. We need to drive prices DOWN, not UP.

When millions of struggling workers want to join unions, Trump's decision to neuter the NLRB is blatantly illegal. It is also a huge gift to Musk, Bezos & other billionaires who want to abolish the only federal agency that can stop their union busting. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

Vermonters & Americans need lower electric bills. I'm outraged that Trump’s EPA put an illegal hold on funding Solar for All, which could lower electric bills for working families by 80% through the installation of solar panels on rooftops. The funding freeze must be rescinded.

The plane crash outside of Washington last night is devastating. My thoughts are with the families and friends of all of those killed. I also want to thank the first responders who did an outstanding job responding to this tragedy.

RFK Jr. wants evidence that vaccines do not cause autism. The evidence is there. He refuses to see it.

I have never seen anyone flip as quickly as Robert F. Kennedy did on the question of whether a woman has the right to control her own body.

I asked RFK Jr. a simple question:

The president can veto or support legislation. He can make recommendations to Congress. But he doesn't have the unilateral right to change laws. Trump has very little respect for the rule of law & our Constitution. He is moving us toward authoritarianism. We must stop him.

The Trump Administration’s action to suspend all federal grants & loans will have a devastating impact on the health and well-being of millions of children, seniors on fixed incomes, and the most vulnerable people in our country. It is a dangerous move towards authoritarianism.

Mr. President: Instead of stealing Greenland from Denmark, I have a better idea.   In Denmark, everyone is guaranteed health care, college education is free, parents receive 1-year of paid paternity leave & workers don’t make less than $22 an hour.  Let's steal those ideas.

Trump is trying to bully our allies Canada, Colombia, Denmark, and Panama, threatening tariffs if they don't do what he says. Really? What about imposing tariffs on drug companies that charge us 10 times more than other countries pay for the same drug?

Trump said he wants to “clean out” Gaza and push the millions of Palestinians living there into neighboring countries. There is a name for this — ethnic cleansing — and it’s a war crime. This outrageous idea should be condemned by every American. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

While 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, Musk, Bezos and Zuckerberg, combined, own more wealth than the bottom half of America.  Apparently, that’s not enough. Republicans want to give them a massive tax break by slashing Medicaid. Together, we will stop them.

This is what we mean when we talk about corporate greed: Starbucks gave its CEO $96 million for just 4 months of work. Meanwhile, Starbucks is refusing to offer a raise of more than 50 cents an hour to 12,000 union workers. That's unacceptable. Starbucks must end their greed.
