I was your friendly, neighbourhood rhetoric and game studies diva. Now I’m not sure what’s going on. I'm into critical pedagogy, rhetorical genre studies, open ed, and trusting my students.

Canadians! Sign the parliamentary petition (sponsored by Charlie Angus) to revoke Musk’s Canadian citizenship www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en...

wait this can't be right, we have two business geniuses at the helm

I get that calling Elon a drug addict (literal) seems right and even fun, but FFS, drug addicts generally are not nazis. The phrase “drug addict” is not a “swear word” or derogatory. Musk is a Nazi sack of shit. Some of my best friends have been addicts and they are lovely people.

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

Dark skies reflect my sadness at the firings of all the humans that help keep the #GreatLakes as healthy as possible. Tonight I mourn the loss of the 14 @usfws.bsky.social employees that kept the invasive sea lamprey at bay. My fishery will be hurt. 😢😢🌊🌊

There’s some sealioning going on around here on the BlueSkys. Credit and more explanation in the alt text.

I completely agree with @biblioracle.bsky.social. Perhaps postsecondary institutions have swung too far into corporate hegemonies, even in Canada. They are more concerned with numbers than people.

Pritzker: If we don’t want to repeat history, then for god’s sake, in this moment, we better be strong enough to learn from it.

I think everything from Jan 20 2025 is a “regret to the grave” moment. Wow. So hard to build, so easy to destroy, so heartbreaking to witness, so violent for so many.

Starting to think that every major educational institution buying into third party systems designed to collect granular, structured, and highly retrievable information about every aspect of our professional lives may not have been the best idea.

I really used to love visiting the U.S. I admired a great deal of your poetry and art. But the underlying infection of hate and racism that Black, POC, and Indigenous scholars and artists diagnosed as your destruction has taken over the body politic with a vengeance.

I feel like everyone needs to reread/relisten to Jon Stewart’s America (the audiobook is awesome).

America is not gonna go down quietly. Former NFL punter arrested after protesting ‘MAGA’ Video:

I read data about how white people are more likely to receive bystander CPR than Black people. That means that many people who saw a Black person dying on the street would just let it happen. But, if the person in need were white, they'd stop and offer potentially life-saving help. Sit with that.

Years ago when I taught communication to software engineers at (VERY IMPORTANT UNIVERSITY), I asked the Chair if he (always white he) thought his students might benefit from critical thinking/arts courses. He scoffed. I wonder what the data says about tech folk with arts/ethics courses vs. None.

“I asked ChatGPT something today and it gave me an answer” is a whole genre of LinkedIn personality now

Fuck Shopify.

Sorry for no #OceanDevotion the last few days—I’m traveling and landlocked right now. But here’s one I took while snorkeling on the weekend. Enjoy your minute of peace and calm with the 🐠🐠🐠.

Top Chef is now a document of what the U.S was when citizens could afford to eat high end food.

I’m….I can’t….the impacts of this betrayal are immeasurable. We non-Americans may (maybe) recover by reframing all our partnerships. But wow, the U.S. is in real and long-lasting trouble. Good thing they have the most nuclear capability, biological warfare tools, and so many fucking guns. yay.

Thank goodness durable genres are very difficult to displace.

Not arguing but I think it was Volcker who brought in Reagonomics, triggering a terrible recession? Didn’t that recession allow Volcker and his ghouls to gut the U.S? Thatcher and her gang did the same in the UK. Neither nation has ever recovered. Like Trump, Reagan was a puppet.

2025.

Condo owners: Co-piilot wouldn’t bullshit us Court: pffffttt. These precedents are 90% fake and the other 10% have nothing to do with anything Condo owners: that doesn’t mean we won’t use co-pilot as a search engine, just not for legal precedent Co-pilot: Cha-ching! www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

n good news, my university has abandoned the bad place and joined BlueSky! In bad news, my employer is here. Hey 👋

The metaverse budget could have funded literally one million indie videogames, instead we get Second Life’s suburban cousin, who was once at a party where someone smoked weed but didn’t go near enough to smell it because they had work the next day and didn’t want to be weird
