I think you must prepare for a worst case scenario: an authoritarian state in USA with limited freedom of speech and no more free elections. You should ask yourselves: what should people of former democracies have done to prevent it from happening? The answer is what you should do.

I understand. Until now your framework has been a democratic one and now Trump and his administration are changing all that. I hope you can unite and coordinate a strong united opposition soon. Before it may be too late. We Europeans must support you too in any way we can.

But still a majority of you Americans voted for him. And many have not been silenced but - as most republicans - chosen to turn silent and to change views. And now the democratic world has to suffer.

Now USA has used up all its trust as a negotiator ”between” Russia and Ukraine. Another negotiator is needed. Even if I am critical to China in so many ways as a dictatorship and supporter of Russia, they also have much more power over Putin. That would be a deserved, humiliating blow to Trump.

I thought I couldn’t get more surprised about how fascistic and unprofessional #Vance and #Trump are. I was wrong. Adding the colonialist approach to a country attacked by #Russia, it makes me sick. The whole world was an eye witness. And the chearing GOP and MAGA don’t realise that the loser here was not Zelenskyy. The US has now separated themselves from the free world, lost all allies and sided with dictators like Putin, Un and MBL. There will be high prices to pay in Gilead 2.0

The first thing you @anneapplebaum.bsky.social and other influential thinkers can do is to abandon X. Then, others will follow. And Elon will loose power.
