The Globe and Mail

This is some excellent good trouble

This is how it’s done. The two big parties of right and left have formed an emergency coalition, plan to amend the constitution to allow higher government debt, and use it to defend European democracy through Ukraine

@dougsaunders.bsky.social reflects on Trump’s imperialism: “it's not inevitable that we're in a historic moment that's going to turn out well for us…we have to ally ourselves and work very closely with the rest of functioning democracies.” podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/t...

Very heartening to see foreign officials mocking him for being a fucking clown. Feels like the garlic to his vampire

Over 80 years of post WW2 allied support gone in less than 40 days of Trump's time in office. Germans' trust of the US is now on par with Russia, with 3 times as many Germans trusting Ukraine over the US. Only 16% of Germans now trust America, with 75% "do not trust".

Somebody somewhere Needs an endless field of flowers tonight

Here are some nice mushrooms

They made a homophobic, anti-mask, misogynist the face of their company and then act like victims when decent people decided not to buy their vetbro beer. The punchline: the CEO of Armed Forces Brewing never served. It’s a marketing ploy. $300K from Youngkin wasted. www.whro.org/business-gro...

More Alberta tonight. Rawson Lake. A Bob Ross painting come to life.

The US military has removed photos of the B-29 bomber “Enola Gay” — which dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan — apparently because it contains the word “gay,” which violates their new anti-DEI rules.

3,000-Year-Old Olive Tree on the Greek Island of Crete Still Produces Olives Today

What a photo. Green must be the start of something, not the end.

no that was the Constitution

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

Not as glamorous as my toucan posts, but the Fox Sparrows are excellent little birds and fun winter and spring visitors here in Washington state. #birds #nature #sparrowsarethebest

when you spent your first 5 years outside and now you live in an apartment with two weirdos who keep cheering whenever you eat your dinner

Yes friends, it's happened again, the doomscrolling and re-doom-skeeting. So now is a good time to share with you Mr. Moo's Magic Mittens. 💖 #CatsOfBluesky

With his permission, I'm sharing Dean Treanor's response to Ed Martin's letter:

Look who came up the driveway this afternoon!!!! You've never seen me grab my camera so fast. Unfortunately, I had to shoot through a dirty window in low light, so it's a bit fuzzy. Still! Lynx!! In my yard!!! Look at those big fluffy paws! 🦊🌿

Government data represents a potential "Holy Grail" for #AI developers (like Elon Musk-owned xAI). It’s verified records of actual human behavior across entire populations over time. This data exists nowhere else with such breadth and authenticity. buff.ly/gLdaHtc

There it is. Raskin always on point.

A massive dust storm charging across Texas today. Spectacular view.

On 7/29/16, Tech billionaire Peter Thiel met w/ Kevin DeAnna who wrote under the pseudonyms ‘Gregory Hood’ & ‘James Kirkpatrick. In 2012, DeAnna (as Hood) had written that, “It’s time to fight for a country of our own. It’s time to stop being Americans. It’s time to start being White Men again.” 1/

Civil servant source says DOGE has made agencies much less efficient: "Work has ground down to a stunning degree and management is spending a significant amount of time responding & preparing to respond to the chaos incited by the never ending barrage of EOs & accompanying memos" Many make no sense🧵

“When you see important societal actors — be it university presidents, media outlets, C.E.O.s, mayors, governors — changing their behavior in order to avoid the wrath of the government, that’s a sign that we’ve crossed the line into some form of authoritarianism.”

It’s left to us gadflies to pull the fire alarm. Been doing it since 2016!

And these poll statistics are only a few weeks into Trump's White House return ... not surprising as he has allied himself and our country with Russia; scorning and bullying most Western nations with tariff threats, etc. =======================

I can't think of a faster way to undermine the country than simultaneously firing government workers, cutting scientific research, rolling back protections on public health & environment, & cutting essential services. It's like the US was defeated in war and is being occupied by a hostile enemy.

Once upon a time, in the late 1800s, people in Japan got really into breeding mice. Coloured mice. Patterned mice. Even mice that danced. They became known as Japanese Fancy Mice, and that caught the attention of researchers in Europe and America, who imported them for study. 2/n

"Life continues, and some mornings, weary of the noise, discouraged by the prospect of the interminable work to keep after, sickened also by the madness of the world that leaps at you from the newspaper," (1) Albert Camus "Letter to P.B." in Lyrical and Critical Essays

Not “misleading.” But keep looking at the thesaurus, and the right word will appear.

Lies, lies, lies. So many lies.

It is Day 44 of the American Coup. We knew SOTU was going to suck - and it did. Pick a thing in your community to push back in the next few days. Find some like minded individuals. Talk about what's going on. Show up at a protest. Call your representatives. Check on your neighbors.
