we're cooked

This is to me is a significant add here. The Associated Press is now posting on Bluesky: @apnews.com

I don't know who needs to know this, but Pro Publica has an online thing that will format a letter to your US health insurance company to demand the records behind a claim denial. (which the insurance is then legally required to provide in most cases) projects.propublica.org/claimfile/

this is excellent, informed & informative on Trump-1’s grotesquely barbaric “child separation” policy & the prospect of Trump-2 exceeding its grotesquery & barbarism by many orders of magnitude — and also on the difficulty of saying any of these things effectively: www.nybooks.com/articles/202...

the frenzy over the hunter biden pardon is a good reminder that the press knows how to make something a scandal and has decided that nothing trump does is truly deserving of that treatment

The Medicare Advantage program is a stealth attempt to privatize Medicare and enrich the private insurance industry at the expense of seniors. Multimillionaire CMS nominee Mehmet Oz, who owns stock in private insurers, is one of the biggest proponents of this scheme.

The incoming administration has nominated a gang of sexual predators, vindictive psychopaths and utter incompetents to be the presidential cabinet and the Washington Post has gone full-court-press on the Hunter Biden pardon. Our political media is deeply, deeply broken.

So a reminder: It’s not ‘liberals’ saying Hegseth abuses women. It’s his mom. It’s not ‘liberals’ comparing Trump to Hitler. It’s his vice-president. It’s not ‘liberals’ calling Musk a liar and a racist. It’s his own child. For the record.

Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential.

Across the country, people are starting meal preparations and traveling to be with friends and family. Tell us your favorite dish on the Thanksgiving table, and we’ll share our knowledge about the work behind the ingredients. #WeFeedYou

When I wrote this in July, some said I was being alarmist. Unfortunately, now I look prescient. "Project 2025 is premised on contempt for constitutional norms and the rule of law. It seeks to reshape American government, law and society for a generation." www.democracydocket.com/opinion/how-...

Below is an excellent @techpolicypress.bsky.social podcast on the incoming administration’s strategy and tactics for targeting those who research disinformation and hate speech.

The usual suspects are out there yelling "There are 23 million government workers! Fire most of them!" No awareness that most work for local governments, and most of *them* are schoolteachers. Federal employment hasn't grown since the 1950s

NEW: School vouchers were passed in Mississippi in the 1960s with the support of the White Citizens’ Council and a goal of continuing segregation. Money still goes to segregation academies today. Shocking story.

Cities are dispossessing homeless people without any fucks whatsoever www.propublica.org/article/home...

One thing I hope we can do as Bluesky gets larger is be less tolerant of the resistance grifters who will try to hack the platform for engagement and growth without any interest in adding anything substantive or meaningful It’s a different kind of troll.

resolved: people who insist that all social media sites must be places where users are constantly encountering and arguing with people over fundamental disagreement do so because their actual, real lives are echo chambers where they do not encounter any meaningful difference from day-to-day.

Blocking Nazis, trolls, and fascists doesn’t make it an “echo chamber.” People need to stop gaslighting us into thinking we have to listen to Nazis and debate trolls in order to be informed.
