Some AI "citations" are fake if you actually double check them. And AI is biased. It's also a huge waste of energy when used for something that could easily be looked up. My students have lost the skill of using keywords in a search, they just type a question as though its Ask Jeeves.

By whom and how were you told? Without documentation, I would ignore it and say you will only respond to something in writing--ideally certified letter (and notorized!)--make as much bureaucracy as possible.---then forward anything in writing to the media.
