Next year, the EU will require cars to have buttons & dials -- not just touchscreens -- to get a top safety rating. This is a great move. Drivers can fiddle with knobs & buttons without taking their eyes off the road, but they can't do that with touchscreens. (Even better: Tesla will hate this)

I once rang Hotel Doolin to ask them if I could use their loos for a group of just arrived Syrian families who were on a day trip across Clare and when we arrived they had muffins & hot chocolates ready for all the children and teas and coffees and scones for the adults ready in their barn.

For anyone about to refer to the storm, this is the old style of cargo ship hatch for which battens are required to secure it for sea (regardless of storms). Battens secure the canvas over the hatchboards and are themselves held in place by wedges hammered in behind the cleats. #BattenDownTheHatches

Most irish drivers won't know this but even my 6YO spotted it. On most N routes the "cats-eyes" change from amber to reflect green approaching left-turn junctions to show where you can cross. Usually 12 green "cats-eyes" on approach so you can count them in heavy fog & know when to turn.
