I wish senators said the same at Bhattacharya's hearing last week. Why is he only grilled on funding cuts, not the GBD's countless victims?

The American Institute for Economic Research, funded by a rightist intl. conglomerate and run by people without roots in this town, and housed in a secluded mansion up in the forest, had the audacity to call their bizarre pamphlet "Barrington Declaration". Nobody here had anything to do with it. ww

Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin: "Indiscriminate reductions in research funding...pose significant risk to our state and nation’s future. These cuts harm our ability to make critical, life-saving discoveries...They will also damage our nation’s innovation economy and our international competitiveness."

Oh, the irony you write from Great Barrington, the anti-science Eden. That declaration nailed so many coffins. Are we surprised that its authors are set to destroy even more?

I was doing surgical procedures in a literal broom closet in the ER. Had to refuse several transfers (that subsequently died) because we didn’t have bed capacity. It was horrible and MAGA just…doesn’t care.

Also: these attacks on the pandemic response are coming from people that were nowhere near the frontlines, such as political scientists, economists, and MDs that don't practice medicine. These folks have no idea how close the US healthcare system came to collapsing in 2020-21

RFK and Bhattacharya want this. They are not just anti-vax; they are Pro-virus. The whole point of their GBD manifesto was to encourage disease and thin the herd of the weak. Victim blaming is what will come next, as we saw during COVID.

It’s not about this at all.
It’s about cutting review officers and screwing up the review system.
They want us to debate questions like this. Don’t do it. Focus on the cuts.

He also claimed that restoring trust requires “free speech” at the NIH, which is pretty funny as the U.S. government is ordering scientists not to say things like “gender” and to take all pronouns out of email signatures, etc. He also said he wants to stop “research that could cause a pandemic”…

Correct. Shockingly little GBD criticism. Maybe survivorship bias? Only people harmed by lockdowns are around to complain. Those hurt most by the virus were buried or forgotten.

Did you catch the part where he said he would ban research with HEK cells? (response to Josh Hayley)

Actually, he seems here to be recommending a "shot" . . . of vitamin A.

Actually, he's equating vitamins & vaccines: "Studies have found that vitamin A can dramatically reduce measles mortality."--- pouring on possibly deadly misinformation.

Also..he linked this "vitamin A treatment of measles which found no significant reduction"
