“More than a quarter of the contracts listed by DOGE were actually already paid, the Journal found, saving no money. For instance, DOGE listed $168,000 in savings for terminating a contract with HHS for an Anthony Fauci museum exhibit. It had already been fully paid.” Beyond parody.

So ashamed by this.

the fact that this is just a straightforward retelling of yesterday's events without hyperbole

One of the highlights of our Panama adventure was seeing a lek of Golden-collared Manakins. These elusive birds gather during mating season where each male tries to attract a female with an elaborate dance by flitting quickly from branch to branch. 😍😍😍 #Manakin #Panama 🧵1/

Putting aside the fact that this is nonsense, since Ukraine's constitution prohibits elections during wartime and biggest opposition figures are against elections right now, note how Musk is never concerned about democracy in Russia and China. After all, it might jeopardize Tesla sweatshops in China

Donald Trump promised to let Elon Musk self-police his conflicts of interest. The result? Those investigating his companies have been fired. Cases against his companies have been dismissed. The corrupt self-dealing is staggering.

Trump tried a seizure of power in 2021. It didn't work, because he relied only on a violent mob. The military and FBI stayed loyal to the Constitution. This time, with approval of the Republican Senate, Trump has installed anti-constitutional putschists at FBI, DoD, and Pentagon

It's no coincidence that Musk's companies are soaring in value as the regulatory agencies that were investigating or suing them are being gutted. The DOGE agenda isn't about "efficiency" — it's about Musk freeing himself from any accountability so he can line his pockets.

Two weeks from now the crew of a nuclear submarine are going to see this email and the subsequent one firing them all.

Elon Musk is paid TENS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to be the CEO of Tesla. What did Elon get done last week for Tesla?

I wish reading the news felt less like binge watching the final season of a long running series that’s been a major part of your life for decades.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

This is pure extortion. Musk has far too much power for one person and also has enormous conflicts of interest in any role he serves in government. Both will have to be addressed if we want democracy, prosperity, and stability.

Egg prices have now surpassed $8 per dozen.

Trump pardoned the sentence of arguably the single biggest drug trafficker in American history on his second day in office!

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

They are deliberately crossing the red lines, in order to make the unacceptable commonplace and, eventually, acceptable again.

“Check the replies...Illiberal, deeply conspiratorial, occasionally racist, and far more often than not grossly ignorant of or dishonest about basic reality: That’s the populist ‘reply guy’ in 2025. That’s who’s running the U.S. government now.” thedispatch.com/newsletter/b...

I’m not sure the world has seen a genuine supervillain until 2025. Of course there’ve been countless monsters: hitler, Stalin, pol pot. But a real life figure who fits the Gotham/Metropolis model. Plutocrat bigwig who is actually deeply evil & wants to run the world for cartoonishly stupid reasons.

DOGE recommended firing workers at: -FDA, which oversees Neuralink -FAA, which oversees SpaceX -USAID, which probed Starlink -CFPB, which oversees Tesla's financing arm and a potential payment platform on X. "Conflict of interest" is a severe understatement.

NOTICE THE COMMON THREAD?: Elections keep going Deep State, we have to find a workaround; the constitution is being gamed by "legacy media"/Deep State, so we need to give "power of the purse" to Elon. The solution is always the same. Elon needs to be in charge of it.

Nikki Haley’s failure to oppose Trump when it mattered has secured her position of complicity in this demolition of America.

It’s no longer the House budget. It’s the Trump budget, now that Trump has endorsed it, and since the Administration hasn’t submitted its own budget. So we should call the House budget the Trump budget. And we can talk about Trump’s cuts to important programs and Trump’s broken campaign promises.

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

Take note of the messaging - this is both accurate and *deeply* unpopular. It's the kind of thing that forces GOP House members to quietly tell their constituents that they too are concerned about Musk. Make them own this. Make them squirm.

I have long believed that not enough has been written about how GOP members have felt physically intimidated by Trump supporters. It doesn’t excuse their cowardice, but it still deserves more attention.

Remember, everything is part of the same story. They need to destroy our democracy and crush dissent because letting billionaires take over the government in order to steal from us isn't popular and a functioning democracy wouldn't allow it.

“The decisions Trump’s making are in the real world rapidly unspooling a noble system of governance that took centuries to build and a world order that, for all its faults, has been more prosperous and humane than any that preceded it.” open.substack.com/pub/clairebe...

Henry, the oldest Nile Crocodile. 124 years old, little over 5m long, father of over 10,000 crocs, captured in 1903. Still active, strong and healthy

I think this guy should absolutely run with this and see what happens.

Angel and Demon. 🪽

Can we also keep in mind that while Zelenskyy like Churchill 1940-45 postponed elections, Trump in peacetime tried to overturn by violence an election he lost - and has since pardoned all the co-conspirators in his attempted coup?

Be clear about what’s happening: Trump and his administration, and thus America, is siding with Putin and Russia against a United States ally.

This is not how you get to a smaller, more efficient government. This is how you get to a more corrupt, incompetent government.

Neville Chamberlain, to do him justice, never amplified under his own byline Hitler's propaganda against the Czechs

the “make america healthy again” agenda appears to be an elaborate op conjured up by sentient strains of listeria and salmonella www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

I was just an Education Department guy under Reagan and the most junior WH senior staffer under G.H.W. Bush, so what do I know? But if I were an ex-president, and the current president were executing the most disastrous turn in American foreign policy in 80 years, I think I might say something?

And fully half of it is a humiliating error where they mistake the value of a contract by 1000x confusing 8 million with 8 BILLION

That Trump is now calling Pres. Zelensky a “dictator” and it talked the U.S. into spending $350 billion (a lie) for a war Ukraine started (another disgusting lie) should remind you the White House occupant is mentally deranged and must be opposed at all times.

"Shakespeare, [on] Machiavelli, wrote that the very first task of a despot is “kill all the lawyers.” This was not because everyone simply hates lawyers. Rather, lawyers are dangerous to autocrats because they are trained to place the rule of law over the rule of any one person."

Trump and Musk have market sharks’ views of the US—they have no interest in our long term fate. They just want to suck out whatever value they can before they take their profits and move on. They’re corporate raiders doing a hostile takeover and selling the assets off bit by bit.

The first entry @NYTimes checks on DOGE's "receipts" is off by $8bn, NYT finds, accounting for half the alleged savings. DOGE noticed the issue, NYT suggests, but hid it. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

While birding Panama's pipeline road, we came across every birder's dream--an ant swarm--where birds pursue insects disturbed by the swarm. Here's my favorite, the Spotted Antworm. 🖤🤎🖤 #Antworm #Panama #pipeline #BirdsSeenIn2025

1. A few years ago, people like me were widely attacked in the media for “declinism”. How could we fail to see that we were heading into a capitalist utopia, in which everything would keep getting better? This is a thread about what we could see that our critics could not. 🧵

Donald Trump is selling out our seniors to Elon Musk. He is handing over control to sensitive Social Security information to an UNELECTED billionaire. Is Trump too weak to tell Musk no? Is he using Musk to cut Social Security so he doesn't have to take the blame? www.nytimes.com/2025/02/17/u...

Millions of dead people are not on social security. That is a lie. But they won’t stop telling it.

This man is such a disappointment
