most of the return-to-office mandates come from a similar place: managers who need to justify their own existence. because let's be real — if you can't rely on adults to work well from home, you did a shitty job of hiring.

“I just wanna say trans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing. I’m never gonna stop being trans, a letter on a passport can’t change that, and fuck this administration.”

Incredible reporting with many detailed examples. “About a year ago, however, OpenAI changed its terms of use from barring military use to allowing for “national security use cases that align with our mission.””

In addition to being brave and the right thing to do, Sassoon’s letter points out that the Emperor has no clothes — it demolishes the utterly fatuous, transparently corrupt excuses for dismissing the Adams case.

Just got a tip from a guy at the FAA. You'll never believe who is still getting new government contracts while all the contracts at the Department of Education and USAID and other agencies are being nuked from orbit.

not trying to pick on this guy. this just reminded me that the federal government does not provide coffee to workers. to drink coffee at a federal office you generally have to pay into a "coffee club" that is managed by a staffer who volunteers to collect money and purchase a monthly coffee supply.

The best thing I learned in undergrad was, “Follow the money.” No matter what the field of study: K-12 education, healthcare, child abuse law, highway regulations. It *always* comes down to the money.

Convo with my friend from Hungary tonight who left after Orban’s election. She said “your head will spin with all the wild stuff they try to pull, new things every day, but don’t take your eyes off the money. It’s all about the money, and what they’re stealing, and for whom.”

Last weekend court shift for me this AM! I will not miss giving up my nights and weekends to eke out a living wage 🙃

Absolutely incredible judicial conduct here

The most mid song in a minor key will always be better than the best song in a major key

This is morally indefensible and strategically bankrupt. It’s just letting people die on purpose and it makes us weaker in every way.

10% of recycled paper in NYC gets turned into pizza boxes on Staten Island!! and other fun facts:

considering a career in politics just so I can do a filibuster and read aloud Wikipedia pages

The absolute glee some are displaying in blaming Palestinians, and people who protested on their behalf, for their own ethnic cleansing is a strategic error (obvs you target the decision maker), a political error (obvs you need those votes), and a moral error (obvs fix your hearts or die).

This is an excellent summary of our situation, which is quite bad. It’s not just that they’re breaking laws. They’re breaking laws that are centrally important to our constitutional order and are constitutive of its identity. They are targeting the best parts of what democracy has built here.
