What is this shit? Where is my god damn flying car?

Good thread from @rooseveltinstitute.org 's trade and industrial policy expert, @toddntucker.com

Thread on where we stand on tariffs right now. It's a gigantic mess!

tired: gold-standard research design wired: fiat research design

Folks I have a confession to make. I am the Joe Rogan of the Left. I'm sorry...I'll try to do better.

I honestly hadn't thought of that, lol

One of the 3 branches of government upon which our stupid rock/paper/scissors system is based has basically fallen. That leaves the president to do battle with the courts. and ultimately that is not sustainable.

i still think its really funny that there were nominally "pro-science" DC think tanks who believed so much in the DOGE project that they had to write mea culpas about it, as tho that might show their judgment to be newly unimpaired

So after tonight's rage posts I guess this goes to the Supreme Court. In the meantime I guess everything is just in limbo?

Good lord

Ok just dunked on the libertarians with the Fukuyama post but here they are pushing back against Trump. Credit where credit is due.

US Court of International Trade has issued unanimous ruling in case against Trump “liberation day” tariffs ruling also covers case filed by 12 states led by Oregon All tariffs invalidated as beyond scope of executive power; implementation blocked by permanent injunction, per @ilyasomin.bsky.social

The tariffs have been laughably illegal from the first moment. The President exclusively has authority to temporarily adjust trade policy for emergency needs of national security. And he used it to levy high tariffs on *tiny island nations*. Congratulations @ilyasomin.bsky.social

I mean, fair.

trump tried to do something illegal, the MTA refused to comply, and the MTA just won the lawsuit. congestion pricing survives. this is a lesson for every organization and institution battling Trump: DO NOT COMPLY IN ADVANCE

The GOP budget threatens to undo progress in expanding health coverage—but we have better choices. @socio-steve.bsky.social lays out how protecting Medicaid and investing in public health care can ease medical debt and support working families. rooseveltinstitute.org/blog/t...
