"Headed to church" is the virtue signaling he wishes his followers to notice. Everything else is noise and may or may not be real.

Well, no, that isn't what I'm saying. But, truly, by all means, take to the roads, if you'd prefer. Just, please, travel somewhere to touch grass. Being hostile with a stranger on the internet will not solve anything.

And have there been more crashes as a result of such cost cutting? I'm not aware of it, if so. Cost cutting can be foolish, but no, I don't believe if they had reason to believe dozens or hundreds were going to die regularly that they'd calculate that'd have no effect on their bottom line.

Replies you've got are a bit odd, as if nothing's changed and so past norms will hold. Don't think we can know that. But the companies you'd be flying with have a vested interest not to fuck things up. If Musk's endeavours disrupt safety, I believe companies wouldn't want to risk pilots/reputation.

You know you're old when you don't know anything about a show that ended 12 years ago.

"better than a human at everything, almost" is one of the only benchmarks that's even lazier and less verifiable than "solving a general solution to self-driving"... you are talking to technologists, make them establish quantifiable benchmarks for their products or just put on clown makeup already

The better thing to do is not talk about them at all and when someone mentions them to you just shut down the conversation with "I find them weird" and move on.

Doctorow has a good writeup that expresses many of my feelings, even if I am here for now. pluralistic.net/2023/08/06/f... I think the truth is these private services are designed with the expectation that they will become worse and compromised for profit.

Anyone with some know-how can run their own instance of the service that anyone else can then follow/interact with (unless blocked by that instance). BlueSky is "decentralized." Mastodon actually is. Govs/celebs could run their own instances; everyone could have better control/experiences this way.

He looks like 🤡 for a reason.

Mastodon is preferable and solves this problem. You know BlueSky is going to implode within a year or two as they let in advertisers. Their crypto connections tell you all you need to know.

Thank you for your work. It's always solid, even as you're dealing with disaster. Best of luck to you and your partner.

People seem to forget that Facebook started as nothing more than a misogynistic Hot or Not clone back in the day. He was always rubbish and always rewarded for it. The world is reaping what it sowed when it comes to him and his companies.

I don't know who Michael Knowles is, and I think I'll leave it at that.

See, this used to be my argument, but much of the "developed" world has had rather decent and affordable, if not free, education for decades, and the internet made, well, everything accessible. It did not help. In numerous ways, the latter appears to have made things worse.

It's lame but working in Security truly opens your eyes on how little Being Correct matters. It doesn't. I've lived that life, of begging and sitting in fucking failure for years, as I knew my righteousness. Someday people will get it. They didn't. Being a human is learning to navigate humanity.

Discord has many issues, but surely clicking the "Cancel" link in Subscriptions settings isn't one of them. Did it this year myself.

Lee Cronin's work history on IMDB suggests this will be rubbish, indeed.

To be fair, does one really need a feed for such things? If it's a school day in America, the odds of there being a shooting are quite high.
