Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism. We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

If anyone wants a good book that will completely lay to rest any doubt that political people in DC all hang out with each other and the parties barely matter, This Town: Two Parties and a Funeral is solid. It was written during the Tea Party era but it gives you a nice tour under the hood.

If your frame for Congress is "The Democrats are mostly normal adults and the Republicans are psychopathic fascist warriors" then I understand why you think impeachment is impossible. But if you think "oh, they are a bunch of annoying aristocrats in a country club" then it all makes way more sense.

This is why resiliency is important. It's too easy to doomspiral when it's all everything, everywhere, all the time. That's the point of them engaging in that strategy. Work with what you can, and build with what you have. Shore up psychological defenses. Don't bend the knee in advance.
