Sorry everyone: earlier we ran my story about one aspect of the creaking SEND system – noting the cost to councils of transport for SEND pupils by comparing it to road maintenance budgets. People whose view I trust on this said it felt oppositional/confrontational, so it's been re-written. 1/

Stop making things up. We never threatened your shop. We just said it was a nice shop and it'd be a shame if anything were to happen to it.

Lengthy investigation into EHCP quality by @johndickenssw.bsky.social - worth a read, even if you're a parent who's already completely familiar with the slop that gets routinely served up in plans (thread follows) schoolsweek.co.uk/investigatio...

Even setting aside this article's daft premise - the cost comparisons only work if you ignore most of what counts as local government expenditure on road maintenance. It's deeply flawed. Never, ever get a pol corr to do a specialist's job www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

This is "the liberal bulwark against fascism" The centre left media cheering on the centre left government's dismantling of whatever protections remain for the most vulnerable after decades of austerity

The evidence debate around SEND practice, is much needed, not least because it is an area of education that requires us to think harder. However, naively consuming other people’s knowledge/research isn’t always enough. Not least because the uniqueness of the children can be magnified 1/6

Just a thought on the subject of fellow Children's author, Xander Armstrong & private schools.

Stephen Collins is a genius

This is so damn frustrating. Like having NASA prove Earth isn't flat.

“When a man gives his opinion, he's a man. When a woman gives her opinion, she's a bitch.” ― Bette Davis Happy International Women's Day

Being disabled isn’t some abstract concept. It’s not a moral failing. It’s not something you can “try harder” their way out of. It’s something that can happen to anyone at any time. Once it happens to you, you will understand how little support exists. Help us & your future self will thank you.

Celebrate International Women's Day by interrupting men with your unsolicited opinions and taking credit for their work. If they get upset about it, be sure to tell them that they sound hysterical and should smile more.

I know it's hopeless but I hope people in the UK remember the DOGE-woes the next time some populist douchecanoe claims that fixing Britain's problems is a simple matter of putting a businessman in charge, firing half the civil service, and lighting a regulatory bonfire. Shit's hard, yo.

Final very long training run done ahead of the half marathon in two weeks. So grateful for all the kind donations for a great cause. If anyone else can spare a few quid to help get me over the line it would be massively appreciated! www.gofundme.com/f/liam-raise...

Paging Free Speech Warriors!! Your time has come. Where are you? Speak up!! Still can’t hear you. Is your mic on?

I know two women - both mothers of severely learning disabled, autistic, adult sons - in this position. Both have been injured by their sons, one hospitalised. But little help is available & no-one wants to talk about it. It's the Not-Talked-About issue but all SN parents know of someone affected.

Jesus fucking christ

Councils across England are paying families thousands of pounds after failing to provide SEND support set out in education, health and care plans. But experts say the costs can be less than providing the special educational needs provision children are entitled to schoolsweek.co.uk/cheaper-to-p...

Unfucking believable as CDC is suddenly launching a study into exploring possible links with MMR and autism. I wonder who might have initiated this? 🤔 to be clear There is NO link and this has already been debunked in massive studies 🧪🧵

Inevitable wherever SEND provision focuses on assigning labels rather than teaching individuals what they need to know. The ‘diagnosis’ becomes the thing that defines (limits) expectations, teaching and progress.

Some of his readers have asked Mike Masnick @mmasnick.bsky.social why his technology news site, Tech Dirt, has been covering politics so intensely lately. www.techdirt.com/2025/03/04/w... I cannot recommend Mike's reply enough. It's exactly what readers need to hear, what journalists need to do.

I constantly hear/see journalists, commentators & interviewers asserting how easy it is to get incapacity & disability benefits despite clearly having no real understanding of how the process actually works or having spoken to someone who's been through it. Completely distorts public understanding
