A very cool sequence of satellite images showing the NROL-68 Delta IV Heavy arriving at the pad, being integrated inside of the HIF, and being tested on the pad in 2023.

It turns out the CIA has a whole collection of reports on the events here: www.cia.gov/readingroom/...

I can send you the images as well. You might spot something I'm not seeing

Unfortunately many of the scenes haven't been scanned yet. This one taken on August 21, 1968, appears to show black smoke coming from central Prague.
Coordinates: 50.078088, 14.436298
I'll keep digging through the few other available images.

Thanks for the reminder on this, I'm looking into it now. Will try digging through CIA docs to find if they noted anything.
If you have any resources on exactly where to look I'd appreciate that too!

As I'm trying to learn to code, learning more about GDAL (and friends), I'm blown away by what can be done with the code that exists. I just want to package some features into an easy to use GUI for people like myself who work better that way. Hopefully this plugin accomplishes that!

I'm sure official analysis reports on this will be pretty incredible when/if they're released

This also means more satellite images going on my site in far less time than it would take before!

I'm learning that these are old variants, not the 'newer' variants that were destroyed today.

I also derived a new elevation model from the aerial images, allowing me to visualize the elevation change in the affected areas.
The rocks and debris in the valley are locally up to 32m thick and I estimate the total displaced volume is about 11 million cubic meters. #Blatten

I remember trying to georeference this one a while back and I had to stop as it was driving me insane 😅

That's a great idea. I'll try to find a location that was heavily captured and put together a 'timelapse' of sorts.
Unfortunately many images of Mys Schmidta are yet to be scanned.

Yeah, if you go to soar.earth/discover and select the imagery from the 19th and hit the 'pin' icon, and then go to the imagery from the 30th you can use the transparency slider to compare the two. (or vice versa) I hope this helps!

They just updated the WMS with the new imagery: soar.earth/maps/134702?...

My initial alignment and georeferencing is done, but the final processing will take a bit longer still.

Thanks! We've got the images from the 19th up and will be ready to push the new imagery once it comes through soar.earth/maps/134700
Looking forward to seeing your photogrammetry of the area too.
