I have not seen one democrat yelling about how Trump is canceling your mom’s cancer treatment, the absolute easiest layup in the political sphere right now. You’re all either tragicomically bad at this or you really do just not give a shit, and I can’t decide which one it is to be quite honest.

Succinctly put “Trump wants to tear down the system in order to hurt people, but Democrats are more likely to defend the system than the people Trump is trying to hurt.”

In addition to ruthlessly stripping the power of newly elected Democrats, NC’s GOP legislature constrained the ability of cities to rezone. Law largely disallows cities from changing the permitted uses of land—making it much more difficult, eg, for cities to ban auto-oriented uses in transit areas.

i am convinced that these people are death worshippers who want to spread as much disease and sickness as possible (i also think this is all tied up in eugenic beliefs about the “survival of the fittest” www.nytimes.com/2024/12/13/h...

Traffic stops in Chicago's Black neighborhoods have drawn comparisons to the old stop-and-frisk tactics, with police conducting millions of stops in search of guns and evidence. CPD says stops are declining, but their numbers don’t tell the whole story: boltsmag.org/chicago...

The murder of Michael Stewart by the NYPD was the first protest I attended by myself with a friend. I was 12. I've never forgotten him. I believed that the police could be reformed then. Thankfully I grew up.

Seen this guy before and he does good and heartfelt protest music, this is good. as as an aside: when we have a robust underground trading cheap physical formats (cassettes, cd-rs, mixes) then no company can ban our stuff and we also forge bonds of solidarity and community ask me how I know

Very much looking forward to @libankerdc.bsky.social tackling this, esp the ‘2A’ interpretations.

So happy for those whose family members are now free. I hope something like this will happen in Myanmar soon too. www.theguardian.com/world/2024/d...

just from a folklore point of view, "attractive hooded man kills billionaire head of hated business with bullets inscribed with political slogans and then vanishes" is narratively breathtaking

"Coordination" can sound conspiratorial, but Jesse Singal is being completely transparent about the fact that he's working directly with the anti-trans campaigners who filed this case.

Last day of clsss and I never made it to the fourth frame of the Winona meme - did I do it wrong or am I getting better?

Trans rights activists -- including Chelsea Manning -- are staging a protest in a women's bathroom in the Cannon building (a House building) next to Speaker Johnson's office. "Trans rights are under attack! What do we do? Act up! Fight back!"

I feel very happy that Chase Strangio is making history as the first trans man to argue a SCOTUS case. But like why is he having to make his históric appearance? It’s not a good situation, and it’s freighted against him even though he has certain recent precedent seemingly in his favor.

One of those moments when you wonder, how is this legal?

There is rarely a day when I don't think of the quote "How much discomfort is the whole world worth?" A lot of discomfort, and I have to remind myself of that often. www.bostonreview.net/articles/how...

Lee Jae-myung, Leader of South Korea's Democratic Party, live-streamed himself scaling the walls of the National Assembly to bypass military barricades so that he could vote to overturn the President's martial law.

The worst part of the pharmacy line is surely the person singing along to the horrible Xmas music.

Waiting on a long pharmacy line is revealing of the ppl you have to share company with

In “society must be defended” Foucault argues that Hobbes renders war a discursive reality to obscure the violence of real conflict in ways that set the crucible for biopolitical security. We see this same dynamic on college campuses: heightened acrimony over securing speech while war carries on.

Wisconsin public worker and teachers unions scored a major legal victory Monday with a ruling that restores collective bargaining rights they lost under a 2011 state law that sparked weeks of protests and made the state the center of the national battle over union rights.

Illinois has put an end to the injustice of cash bail. And it’s working better than anyone expected.

One of the points I stressed in Partisans is how vital non-conservative media were to laundering right-wing commentators’ views: James Kilpatrick on 60 Minutes, Pat Buchanan on CNN/PBS/MSNBC, Tucker Carlson on CNN/MSNBC, Glenn Beck on CNN. Right-wing media matter, but aren’t the whole story.

Good morning! I have a new piece up at @thebulwark.bsky.social on Pete Hegseth and the network of Christian nationalist organizations he promotes on his Instagram feed--give it a read. www.thebulwark.com/p/pete-hegse...

All the Republicans in Donald Trump’s party acting outraged by Biden’s pardon are shameless. Chuck Grassley’s ‘shame on me’ for believing him is 🤌🏻

Why not pie?

More than disappointing. It's disgusting.

Let’s grant this is fair, then what lessons do we draw from this?

Executive pardon power is underused and we need a return to our traditions of industrial-scale clemency and categorical amnesties – especially at the state level. My 2015 piece from the American Conservative: www.theamericanconservative.com/the-case-for...

Leonard Peltier is still in federal prison. He is 80 years old.

Ever since @yairwallach.bsky.social posted about a Haaretz interview with Rashid Khalidi in Hebrew about ten days ago, I wanted to read it. Now it's out in English, it is long and very much worth reading. Great job by Itay Mashiach. archive.is/ErRw8#select...

Good news from Belgium for sex workers, whose movement for decriminalization has had a big win. Belgian prostitutes now have the same employment protections as other workers, including maternity pay, pensions, and sick days. Power to them 🖤☂️
