I interviewed the designer (Christian) to work on my game years ago. And now I'm chatting with Richard about my work on auto-battlers. The game industry is very small indeed!

Congrats and well deserved! I saw you on the voting list and was like "yep, going to sweep the awards!"
Did you manage to make it to GDC? Was that your picture? I was going to look for ya but had to cancel my GDC plans. =(
I actually sent you a message about GDC talk stuff when you first launched.

Tried to click on the link in the Wired newsletter email and it kept giving a 502 error. Glad this link works though!

Hey! I've asked in a few places and haven't heard back. Do those accepted get free entry to GDC Nights? Because it looks like it is an additional expenses for non-All Access people.

Was fun chatting briefly. We entered the giveaway. Looking forward to seeing more about the giveaway in December if given an opportunity to pitch our vision. =)

Many do, but many people, especially those who I've seen visit the board game space, don't. They often have other badges and go play board games when they can't get into sessions. But I get it is an experiment. Definitely curious to see how it goes.
Do those who get in get a pass to GDC Night?

From my experience hanging out in the GDC board game area every year, for 10+ years, it seems most people go there to unwind in between events and because it is accessible to every badge. And those are games in a finished state that are usually well known. I'll hope for the best though. 🤞

Oh, the event is only at GDC Nights, which costs $50 to get into? Are many people going to be playtesting games after paying to get into a nighttime networking event?
Really hope it does well but it seems like there are so many barriers to entry already...

That's awesome. I would love to design a niche classic. I'm working in the hybrid space so that already makes it niche and auto-battler genre adds to it. Very difficult to make something that resonates though. You've done very well in those areas though!

oooo. Didn't know there was a second one. I am borrowing the first but only played it for a few minutes... really need to go back and finish it.

That's really interesting. I feel like I have to write it down to fully articulate it and see if the idea is worthy of even testing. If I go to write it down and it doesn't make sense then I will know it probably wouldn't test well either.
How often do you solo playtest to see if things work?

It is because there are a lot of reasons and there isn't one answer. Flappy Bird / Among Us are from viral events / influencers. Concord didn't differentiate itself and failed to connect in a crowded live service market without a strong USP or IP.
