In 70 years of war, America has not successfully subjugated any country where even a small portion of the population did not want them. If you can't hold Baghdad, what makes you think you can hold Montreal? How can you control Vancouver if you cannot control Kandahar?

If you are at an event where someone on stage gives a Hitler salute and that person is not dragged off by security and kicked out, you are at a Nazi rally.

Cool, so it's like 3 pm, and I'm still chasing this because the integration server has the wrong language version installed.
I bet they didn't bother coz the app's pre-prod, but all the stakeholders are watching the prod server, so like... FUCK!

So now I get to go engage the ops team to hand-prune this rogue code that's on 3 servers and zero dev boxes. I spent 5 hours of my weekend and my entire Monday morning chasing this wild goose, and now I get to go eat crow with ops. Fuck! It hurts!
Let programmers say, "no."

And it's because MySQL is a bitch, my coworkers are in a rush, cheating on the SDLC, merging directly to production, and I was too much of a fucking weakling to stand up and say "no" to them! FUCKING FUCK ME FUCK I'M A LITTLE BITCH.

It gets fucking better! Turns out the version that's running on the production server DOES support these constraints. Fuck yeah! Now we have rogue code running in int, staging, and prod that's on nobody's dev box.

Yeah, we accept statements to add them for compatibility, but trying to remove one will result in an error. Okay, thanks MySQL. Fucking thanks for nothing.

And now he's on vacation, and I'm finding out that MySQL 5.7 accepts these constraints but doesn't actually add them, just for compatibility.
So of course he can't remove it locally, it doesn't fucking exist!
Which tells me he didn't fucking test his shit before publishing it, FFS!

Alright, well, he added a check constraint to a database column that needs to be dropped. He tried dropping it, but got an error cuz the constraint doesn't exist. WTF?
"Can we please deploy it anyways? I don't want to block anyone."
And man, I really wish I had said no. Really wish I'd stood up.

It does make one wonder about the true motive. Tariffs are inflationary, and his base is angry about inflation. I guess that anger has been useful, so far.
