Use to cycle on Oxford road in about 2000. Rarely saw other cyclists.

You're posting things on SEJ twitter to try to "trick" campbell and he's the one who is obsessed?

As another comparison Tfl throw between £500 million and a billion at buses every year in outright subsidy.

Perhaps people advocating for bsbs don't have children or "loved ones" with children? Well, that's double standards if ever I saw them

Their angle is entirely that people don't like change. If they make it harder to get the changes in then no-one will change their minds. Install, wait 6 months to a year & then see how people feel.

& who was working on an accident % basis - or are these claims unchallenged nonsense?

Right, which of you were encouraging ebikes on pavements?

Problem with academic studies is that they aren't scientific.

Didn't realise he was a lily livered blocker though.
Tried pointing out to him that having a cycle point in front of the shop would increase the number of people who saw it (& stopped/started there) but he ignored that point. All about car custom.
comment in response to

You've not run in to him before? He wants to encourage driving to local shops but not supermarkets or retail parks. His plan to do this is to make sure shops are surrounded by shopping only parking spots that somehow won't also block the view of the shop.

This of course can be fairly accurately measured through suitable surveys.

"spark a rational debate"
On, no gone "toxic" straight away.

I took the opportunity to try and remind them that there's nothing virtuous or not about both public and private transport. It comes down to externalities.

"private transport lifestyle choice" - all of the tropes.

They've doubled down in the idiocy and since claimed that their post isn't about cycling infrastructure, it's supposed to just be a critique of the quality of Peter's interview @peterwalker99.bsky.social
(Peter seems to be another of the specific people that SEJ dislike)

Perhaps it's just an out of context screenshot that doesn't need calling out?

Here's someone regularly retweeted by SEJ. Twitter ltn debate has become a lot less toxic now many supporters have left so opponents can accuse them of being indirectly responsible for sex trafficking.

Shouldn't distract ourselves too far from the fact that John Stewart expects a higher standard of conduct between strangers on the internet than affiliates in his lobbying company.

I suspect could find a large number of people who would cycle for £1k/year. Secondary school, college, low salary, etc. A million people? Maybe not.
Would that be the best way to spend the money? Also maybe not.
Could it be made to work? Yes, I think so.
comment in response to

Sure 19p off a coffee is £43.50
Point was there are amounts of money that can directly incentive behaviour & tfl is known for spending these sums of money - in 2 years it spent 2 billion on direct bus subsidies. Same sums on cycling would be £1billion/year.
comment in response to
post
Tfl subsidises bus travel by between 500 and 1000 million £ / year. 9 million people live in London.
If similar amounts were thrown at cycling through direct incentives I think a lot of people could be motivated. Students starting from secondary school would be a good first target.

& I'm afraid I don't see any attempt at explanation as to why some would find it offensive. Have I missed something?

We understand though that most of these people aren't affiliated with SEJ so not your responsibility to "call out" their toxicity.
Interestingly looking though these posts though there are only about 10 people tagging in SEJ?

Well, this post looks pretty toxic

"much less toxic" - decides to take a peak. Lets look at a SEJ founding committee member.
Hmm, doesn't look like a typical response to an open invite due a bicycle ride.

The next one I could find is this - bsky.app/profile/paul...
In this example I agree with Paul - nativism is racisms little sister. At best it is an attempt to disenfranchise the majority of londoners.

I also asked. Have now tried to find examples. There's the one that @donnachadhmc.bsky.social called out. In that example though I can't help but notice that no-one tried to explain to him why they found it offensive - every day a school day and all that. People sometimes need a helping hand.
