This is awesome. I want to take this back in my way-back machine to the 1980s and test the samples from all the family members who participated in genetic studies of multiplex families with a neuroimmune disorder. So many people had "something" but no diagnosis. This would have been so useful.

"How dare you ever have had "inclusion" and "exclusion" criteria!!!" Mentioning females! Using race and gender in your data analysis! And disability! Off with your grant applications!"

Telemed coverage for Medicare recipients ends April 1st this year? Only exceptions are ESRD, Behavioral Health, and acute stroke? Yikes.

I absolutely love this article. Thank you.

The Department of Grift & Embezzlement amateurs are a "Cargo Cult" of ignorant hacks who are blundering and blustering their way through systems they don't understand. "Performance" is just play acting to them. Shoddy and substandard, careless, deeply inefficient, wasteful and abusive. Shameful.

This is so rich. This abusive cartoon villain thinks the good people are traumatized because (he thinks) they look like villains to the people who are being terminated? Oh my goodness, he's so delusional. Folks, you are worthy and appreciated. We see you. Hang in there.

Finding humor in the chaos. Framing the agents of chaos as cartoon villains. Refreshing my understanding of psy-ops, recognizing the bad online influences, and reducing their power to overwhelm my friends when I see it taking them in.

I saw a great meme, I'll have to look for it. It is a DOGE icon with a raccoon, which is a perfect choice for a mascot, and it is labeled "Department of Grift & Embezzlement" This is all performative nonsense, what they are doing. But raccoons can cause a lot of damage. Stay strong. Make noise.

If their disability began before age 22, they may qualify as a Disabled Adult Child under their parents' Social Security record. It depends on their income. If they have a case worker, they should contact them for guidance ASAP. Good luck, and, I'm sorry for their loss. 😔

Deep inside my imagination, I have this dream that some Good HR person advised DOGE to dismiss on the basis of "poor performance" with the notion that it was a technicality that would work, but said Good HR person knew in fact it would not hold up in litigation. 🤫Maybe an angel.

That is lovely.

My heart is breaking for my friends who were still at NIH after all these years. Praying that something good can come out of this for everyone directly affected by the career disruption, and for the protection of everyone whose lives will be diminished or endangered by this chaos.

No. We had the option of using state DDA resources but couldn't find the right SE provider for him. We found meaningful volunteer opportunities and a recreational day program, traveled. Then the pandemic happened just as we were ready to restart. He'd need to refresh his tech skills, they timed out.

My son lost his job with a contacted vendor during the government shutdown in 2019. 2 years of postsecondary training with accommodations and supports, VR and supported employment. His deep enthusiasm, pride and joy in having a meaningful job... crushed. Gone. It broke his heart. Terrible waste. 😥

Does this mean the requirement is suspended, or access to the resource is deleted?
comment in response to post
Yes, I agree somewhat, however it would be better to give proper notice, fulfill current promises, and make cuts with a scalpel instead of a chain saw.

Sigh... I saw this coming many years ago. Next they will come after IDEA and the Olmstead decision with the same reasoning. It's time to suit up.
comment in response to post
When you read the actual text of the suit, it starts off sounding like it is just about the recent changes which include protections for the LGBT++ community, so a casual reader might think it's just about that. But they really are going for the whole thing. Horrible.

And now, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act is under attack, endangering reasonable accommodations. Texas v. Becerra has been joined by 17 red states. How do we turn this around? Everyone is dealing with the Flooded Zone. Do they realize what this means to them, their friends, their patients?

So, not only did he sleep through his Confirmation classes in Sunday School, he also slept through his Constitutional law classes. Alrighty then.

I get the sentiment, and the need to express ourselves, but how is this not just a denial-of-service attack on the people who we need to be fighting for us?
comment in response to post
There's a reason why we have to have disability laws and advocacy organizations. Abuse, neglect and exploitation are real. The hate is real.

Or perhaps Galaxy Quest. Sarris and his goons have taken over the ship's systems, and the situation looks hopeless. But they succeed, because everybody does their part. Never Give Up! Never Surrender! "Balthazar, activate the Omega 13!"

Reopen closed hospitals and community health centers as polyclinics associated with a medical school, staffed by medical and allied health educators who supervise residents, students, re-entry health providers, foreign medical/nursing graduates who need supervised training. Keep it local.

Oh, I know... disclosure of private health information from disability accommodation requests by Federal employees.

So... there has been a massive data breach, which may result in the potential disclosure of personal information on thousands of people, probably including those in sensitive situations and those with security clearances. What could possibly go wrong?

I waited 10 years too long to get my mobility scooter, so I could travel and keep up with my family. I spent a lot of time on benches, or back in the room, or just staying home while they went ahead without me. Now it's been 7 years of good luck and much increased productivity. Much healthier.

For years it was nearly impossible to get my PsA taken seriously by primary care doctors, and they are now the gatekeepers to rheumatologists. And I was a white clinical research PA, in Boston! I can't imagine how hard it is for people with limited access.

Remember that scene in Monsters Inc., when Boo bops Randall and helps defeat him, and isn't scared of him anymore? And now Randall is out of a job because he can't make her scream? Be like Boo.

Eek. So, only males affected over multiple generations on the pedigree, no sibling pairs, 3 examples of direct parent-child transmission, but maybe the females didn't live long enough to manifest symptoms that would be taken seriously, or documented. If they left DNA samples, perhaps sequencing? 🔬

If I learned anything over the last 24 hours, it's not about the price of coffee. It's about equal justice under the law, and treating human beings with dignity and respect. Military cargo planes? Shackles? Despicable.
