Funny how eliminating some college debt is a 'major question' hamstringing the executive......but gutting entire agncies mandated by law seems not to be.

Remind them that there are people out there fighting and dying, putting their lives at risk, to protect the values that our leaders are too afraid to even raise their voices to defend. Saving democracy can exact a far higher price than a lost election, not that any of our politicians seem to care.

The structure of the Constitution and American governance more broadly is such that most of the normal 'coup-to-takeover' buttons have instead been rewired to 'civil war.' Governors handle elections, they have access to military force (national guard), the populace is armed, etc.

2) divided govt requires compromise
3) a lot of things poll well until you try to pay for them
4) good policy doesn't sell itself
5) most people want stability over radical change
6) online bubbles create echo chambers that amplify otherwise mundane issues

My feeling is that we’re talking about market conditions far more catastrophic than 2008-09. These companies are a much bigger pie of the index now, and they’ve bet it all on something we all know is bullshit. At least I didn’t see the housing crash coming.

My advice is: lots of people will give you advice. That's great! You don't have to follow it all. But look for the patterns in the advice you get. If many people say similar things, that's probably great advice!

In hindsight I think a generation of scholars and activists made a massive mistake in assuming that the conditions of (a, yes, deeply flawed in many ways) liberal democracy as the floor, the worst things could get, and so felt free to portray them in worst possible light. Whoops!

“in an unclassified email”
This is exponentially more reckless than anything Hillary Clinton ever did with her email
