Agree so completely with all of this. The historical context is CRUCIAL—I’ve read ideas in trad texts that may be problematic if applied unilaterally in a contemporary context, incl some deeply patriarchal biases… enough for me to get worried sometimes when newbies reach for these texts first

I think it’s important to think of 2H “materialism” in a way that doesn’t center capitalist ideology. 2H is not so much the pursuit of material abundance & resources as it is the pursuit of material proof or confirmation. It is how we substantiate & affirm our identity.
