I saw something that was put into movie theaters. It was not a movie. It was something clearly cobbled together from pieces of cutting room floor containing scraps of ideas. Fragments of potential glued together by slabs of porridge. Ergh. D

Creature Commandos ended on a solid if violent note. I feel like this series is meant to show us the underlying hopelessness and cynicism of this DC Universe before Superman shows up, and if so, it did a pretty good job. Gunn's dark humor and tragedy are superb here. B+ overall.

The first anime I've enjoyed so far in 2025 is Akemu M.D.: Doctor Detective. It's basically "what if Gregory House was an anime girl & teamed up with Japanese Columbo" but it's great fun. Good character moments but a lot of medical jargon to parse. First 2 episodes are a B+.

"Lord of the Rings" War of the Rohirrim" is a solid film with beautiful direction by Kenji Kamiyama & excellent character design. The story isn't anything we've never seen before & there's some wonky dialogue, but it's a decent adventure film overall with memorable characters. B

Also started Creature Commandos yesterday. While it's James Gunn pulling from his Guardians formula again, it's executed really well so far! It takes full advantage of the animation medium to execute some wild visuals, gags and cuts that would be expensive or impossible to pull off in live action.

Shadow Generations is the most fun I've had with a Sonic game in a long time. It's simultaneously a Frontiers-style "open zone" game, the 3D boost game we've always dreamed of, and finally, an update of Sonic Rush. With a killer story and Kirk Thornton's best Shadow performance ever. Loving it.
