Some good news

All sounds very plausible

Donald Trump is interested in the perks of the presidency, but not the work of the presidency. And Elon Musk is more than happy to fill the void.

The most important thread you'll read today. In brief: Europe has the power to save Ukraine and slip into the leadership position America has vacated. It must grasp it. And Europeans must pressure their governments to do so.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

Around 70% of the Britain’s 12,000 greenhouses are more than 40 years old. So there’s a huge opportunity for hi-tech horticulture to improve food security.

Most voters now think Brexit was a mistake, and the trend is only accelerating. Labour can’t sit on the fence forever—demographics are shifting, and a choice will have to be made.

"Britain is at risk of a £24bn blow to the economy should Donald Trump forge ahead with “reciprocal tariffs”, analysts have warned." Says the Telegraph, the same paper that has repeatedly trumpeted the exciting prospect of a huge US trade deal over the years. archive.ph/oTLRw

Hell yeah. Hold the line. This is what we need people to do. Slow things down, don’t comply in advance so the courts have time to stop them. It’s starting to work.

If Musk, Capo Trump’s enforcer, meant to freeze the work of government, he’s doing a great job. By short-circuiting the legislative process, he has invited (and is receiving) lawsuits that will freeze everything in place. This is what Amateur Hour gets you.

Who saw this coming...... Bet Musk is the toast of the Tesla shareholders.

Ketamine’s a helluva drug.

I am really frustrated that the press is discussing the destruction of USAID as something that has happened rather than an illegal action that will likely be undone in two weeks when courts tell the world that it was illegal.

Populism is about loss of faith. Most people don’t want division—they want action. But if mainstream politics can’t deliver, populism will fill the gap. The choice for leaders is simple: disrupt or be disrupted. @stephenmcnair.bsky.social reports.

The dangers of ‘bothsidesism’: why Trump’s diatribe about the airline crash was indefensible We must get a grip on Trump’s response to the Washington aircraft tragedy. But do our UK commentators help?

The End Game? Thames Water restructuring deal would provide £1.5bn now, potentially rising to £3bn. Already has £19bn debt. Customer bills will rocket. New money would pay adviser fees, existing interest charges, leaving £500m in usable cash. And after that? End the Ponzi scheme. Nationalise

The number of English households living in temporary accommodation more than doubled between 2010 and 2023. Poverty and homelessness is a political preference for austerity, low wages/benefits, unchecked profiteering.

UK Govt wants to build 1.5m new homes by 2029; 700,000 dwellings are empty in England alone. Besides questions about affordability & services, how will the govt deal with supply chain and logistical problems. I asked Minister to publish a report. Watch her answer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwK5...

“wealthy billionaires and corporations… hoard land as an asset, Britain now having among the highest concentrations of land ownership in the world. Half of England is owned by less than 1% of its population.”

Wow! - "Romanian Authorities Raid Homes Of Those Involved In Russia's Failed Attempt To Rig Presidential Election" In the UK: May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak, all chose not to investigate Russian interference in Brexit because Brexit was their route to become Prime Minister

When I can't sleep, I find that a podcast on a timer (usually 30 mins) so that it cuts off automatically usually does the trick. I fall asleep before the end of the set period at least nine times out of ten. Without the distraction of the podcast, I can be lying awake with my thoughts for hours.

Thames Water bosses collected £770,000 in bonuses. CEO got £195k bonus, doesn't rule out £2m bonus. Bonus for what? Sewage dumping; wanting 59% increase in customer bills; not investing; debt; borrowing to pay dividends. All approved by Ofwat and successive govts. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
