granting the premise of this, how would you know what questions to ask?

You’re an absolutely awful writer and you make the logical arguments of a toddler. That’s not Bouie or “left’s” fault.

Trump official announces that Trump has signed an executive order claiming that only the president can speak for “what the law is” (This is not how the Constitution works)

A labor economist told KCUR's Up To Date that Kansas City does not have enough available jobs in the area to make up for all the local federal workers getting laid off by the Trump administration.

This is so incredibly, goofily stupid—a slapstick level of dumbass, self-defeating, wasteful procurement even if it’s somehow not as corrupt as it looks—but I suspect absolutely no one is going to prevent it from happening. What an embarrassment. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/u...

Absent some sort of drastic intervention, this is our future too

Things only happen if people DO things. Keep fighting. www.theverge.com/news/610765/...

i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.

"[For the Right], D.E.I...is the mere presence of a woman or nonwhite person or disabled or transgender person in any high-skilled, high-status position. And their alternative isn’t some heretofore unknown standard of merit; it is the reintroduction of something like segregation." (gift link)

We only know this man is in Gitmo because Noem tweeted a propaganda photo that included him and his sister saw it. He has no criminal record. He entered the US in January and immediately made an appointment with CBP to claim asylum. They sent him to a concentration camp bc of his basketball tattoo.

my view is that as soon as the administration froze disbursement of congressional appropriations we entered constitutional crisis territory

Inflation remained stubbornly high in January, as grocery, gasoline and shelter costs all rose. Egg prices saw their biggest price hike in almost a decade.

A Different World gets lots of accolades for increasing HBCU interest/attendance (rightfully so) but this movie also played a big part too.

Musk has sicced his followers on the WSJ writer who reported on a DOGE staffer’s racist online, history demanding her firing. This is a tactic Silicon Valley’s neoreactionaries have been advocating for years: Pick a reporter, dox and harrass, make an example of them, make everyone else afraid.

This has been a wild week, with way more news coming out of the new administration than anyone can follow. And that's likely by design. Here's some of the biggest things that happened this week.

The outcome of this political moment depends a lot on Americans being able to escape or see past the billionaire-controlled prison of right-wing propaganda our devices have become www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

One of these days we're gonna have to reckon with the fact that "money that I spend which does not directly benefit me is a waste" is a popular sentiment. I think we should state plainly that this is selfish on its face. And stupid when you have awareness which extends beyond your nose.

Hearing nonsense that Ds are threatening a shutdown. False. Entire matter is in GOP hands. What's happening is that Rs are coming hat in hand to Ds for help because they can't agree among themselves. Ds shld have a simple demand. No help until the criminal conduct stops.

It is notable that Big Law is completely absent from the legal fights to protect democracy. In 2017, they bragged about their pro bono work for the resistance. Now, they are silent -presumably cowering in fear of Trump and Musk. Support the non-profit law orgs and small firms doing this hard work.

hey @schatz.bsky.social I want you to know I literally laughed out loud and slapped the table when I read this. go off king

In this Ohio diner, they care more about eliminating DEI.

a nice reminder to the press that there is nothing you can do to pacify these people or buy yourself leniency

Wired’s coverage these last two weeks has been exceptional. Truly the best kind of reporting. A worthy place for your subscription dollars.

Oh buddy

Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

2025 will go down as the year when all the subtext became text

Yep. Probably a bad sign when the FBI Director nominee repeatedly takes the 5th

WSJ: A staffer for Elon Musk’s DOGE whose access to U.S. Treasury payment systems was approved by a federal judge on Thursday has links to a deleted social-media account that advocated for racism and eugenics He resigned Thursday after the WSJ asked about it. www.wsj.com/tech/doge-st...

Audacious ideas

if the president can say “i don’t like the department of energy,” and within a week it’s closed, then the constitution means nothing, and the president’s entire claim to power is the loyalty of the military. either he is constrained by the constitution or he’s a dictator, there isn’t a middle ground

Yeah so the Constitution isn’t really in effect right now
