Let this sink in—the head of the EPA has now labeled climate science as “religion”, and reframed the purpose of the EPA to “lower the cost of buying a car… and running a business”—the ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY! That’s where we are now. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/12/c...

"the plan to shrink IRS staff by up to 50% would — very conservatively — lead to a $400 billion increase in uncollected taxes over the next decade. It could easily mean more than $2 trillion in losses..." www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

The exact same people who ridiculed Dem members of Congress for posting similar talking points in a coordinated way do the same thing daily.

I hope you’ll read Heather today…she explains why progressives are so angry at Schumer and the other nine Dems who voted with MAGA yesterday. I am angry because I’m out in rural spaces everyday. I need fighters, not co-signers. open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

The headline really sanitizes what they did to this guy. Getting stripped naked, inadequate food, sleep deprivation sounds more like war on terror ear rendition than "interrogation."

Universities: We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately

Two Republican senators told me tonight this vote shows they can execute the same strategy again — cut Democrats out of the negotiations on a gov’t funding bill, pass it thru the House, and expect Senate Dems to back down and not filibuster it. “We liked it over here,” one said.

I find "listen to the women" excellent advice in this specific case and... in life in general. ♀️ #VoteNO 👎

In 2019, the National Park Service had a budget of $4 billion but generated over $30 billion in economic activity. Firing federal workers and cutting public programs is going to end up costing us MORE, not less.

Meiselas: That’s our message to you from the MeidasTouch Network: Grow a spine. Vote against cloture. Vote against the CR. The American people are with you. Stop this hostile government takeover. Fight for the people.

Another day where the presidents of every R1 university in the country should be our loudly & collectively in front of microphones calling out the authoritarianism, condemning the budget cuts that are an existential crisis for 🇺🇸 higher education & science, & doing anything other than more silence.

Bernie Sanders: "If you do nothing, you sit back and say, 'it's gonna be terrible.' And that's right. A shutdown will be terrible. But our job is to put the onus on the Republican president, the Republican House, the Republican Senate, the people who control the govt"

This is correct. The only way they get it done tomorrow is unanimous consent. If that happens, every single Senate Dem might as well have voted for it with Schumer.

Extraordinary stuff in new Quinnipiac/CNN polls: 60% disapprove of Musk/DOGE handling of federal workers 54% say Musk/DOGE hurting the country 62% say cuts going too far On the pod, @paulwaldman.bsky.social is good on how Musk is getting voters to like govt again: newrepublic.com/article/1927...

NEW: National Park Service staff have received talking points ordering them to describe layoffs as “workforce management actions” and to reassure visitors that changes resulting from the cuts won’t impede “memorable and meaningful experiences for all.” By @anjeanette-damon.bsky.social

The foxes aren’t just guarding the hen house, they’re raiding it 🦊 Everything Trump’s administration does benefits giant corporations at the expense of public health & well being

The Democrats face the only decisions because—in headlines—only the Democrats have agency in the federal government, even when they have no majorities and hold virtually no formal power.

Reminder that Republicans control the White House, the Senate, AND the House. If the government shuts down, it’s on them.

1. Impoundment is illegal 2. Why would Dems approve funding legislation that Trump can unilaterally veto? What's the point of having a Congress at all if the president controls the purse strings?

House Democrats held strong against the Musk-Takeover Spending Bill Yesterday. We need your help to ensure that the Senate Democrats do the same. Follow the link and script below to make calls. This vote happens TODAY! indivisible.org/resource/cal...

if Trump and his cronies are able to veto appropriations made by Congress, then we've already moved into a dictatorial system of government. Why would Democrats waste time negotiating spending deals if Trump can just rip them up after he signs them?

To pave the way for trillions in tax cuts for the rich “Waste and fraud” is the cover story. There is not $1 trillion in waste. They are lying.

Why is Trump waging a war on the Department of Education? Because he knows that his biggest enemies are educators and younger generations of learners who are unafraid to speak truth to power. Attacks on education are central to the fascist playbook.

In fiscal year 2024, the report found, NIH awarded more than $36.9 billion to researchers, supporting more than 408,000 jobs and generating over $94.5 billion in new economic activity nationwide. news.harvard.edu/gazette/stor...

Rolling back EPA protections is something that all Americans should oppose. Here is my grandfather in 1937 with his firefighter buddies in Etna, PA. A blast furnace released so much pollution that people had to change their clothes at noon from all the ash. Is this really what we want?

House Dems are ready and eager to vote for a 4-week funding extension to block these devastating cuts and keep the government open, allowing us to reach a serious bipartisan compromise.

The thing that was making America great was apparently lead.

Trump’s team is already saying they will not spend funds that Congress has authorized and appropriated.  There is no point in Democrats voting to fund the government only to let Trump and Musk do whatever they see fit with those funds. Call your Senator: (202) 224-3121

This is what many cities in the U.S. looked like before the EPA. Why the heck would anyone celebrate deregulating it?

I’m sure Susan Collins will head down to the WH tomorrow and stand up to Trump about this on behalf of her constituents and get this handled.

The largest private employer in Baltimore just lost $800 million in federal contracts and grants. This recession is going to be a doozy.

Trump is STILL - RIGHT NOW - tweeting about Tesla. He's spent more time protecting the richest man in the world's profits than he has protecting healthcare, education, jobs, or veterans in the last 6 weeks as president.

Cowardice. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/11/u...

Donald Trump said he'd abolish the Department of Education, and that's exactly what he's doing. If you send your kids to public school, Trump is sending you a clear message: he doesn’t care about you.

The DOE largely support programs for children with disabilities. Eliminating half the staff will directly impact access to education for children with disabilities. This is barbarism.

This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

I'm appalled by the USDA's decision to pause funding to the University of Maine System. This will hurt our farmers, halt critical research, and impact students throughout Maine. Once again, our state is being targeted for retribution—all because our officials are standing up for the rule of law.

This isn't going to get the attention of Columbia, but it's at least as bad: the University of Maine is having its funding cut off because the governor of Maine dared to challenge Trump.

A recent study found that cervical cancer deaths in young women have plummeted since the introduction of the human papillomavirus vaccine.
